Piers Morgan is a horrible human being!
Noters Beware!! This is a “mean-note” free diary.
For those of you who don’t know, Piers Morgan is one of the judges who, in my opinion, made complete arses of themselves on the show “Britain’s Got Talent” when judging Susan Boyle. I have plenty to say about how the judges behaved during that show, and I will get to that. But just now, I bumbled across this:

I know these shows have their mean-spiritedness. And when one makes the decision to go on such a show, they should expect to hear unkind things. I don’t agree with it, but it’s the nature of the beast and it brings ratings. I would simply shut up about it and elect not to watch, except for one thing. I think these judges made a huge mistake. They are there to judge one thing only, talent, as the title of the show suggests. I’m pretty sure I got the name right. I don’t think it’s called “Britain’s got hotties”. These idiots snickered at Susan before she ever opened her mouth. They took it upon themselves to judge her looks. And that folks, wasn’t part of the job. They did it publicly. They humiliated her on stage, in front of a live audience (who also needs to feel some shame, IMHO), and also in front of god knows how many millions on television. And all this, before she ever got a chance to do what she came to do. Sing beautifully. Susan took it all with grace and never let it stop her, and for that she deserves kudos. The three judges should be relieved of their position and not be allowed to ever be in such a position again. Simon Cowell is an arse as well, and he should never have achieved fame to begin with.
As to the piece by Piers Morgan, I am floored. I don’t know if this was to be an ode to Susan or an apology or what, but whatever it was meant to be, it fell flat. After Susan sang, the judges admitted that they were against her from the beginning, and she blew them away. While unkind, at least it was phrased “nicely”. In his article, Morgan says that he was prepared to hear the sound a lobster makes when boiled, and that he thought he was going to see a car-crash of epic proportions. Good lord! And then he has the nerve to say that Susan would receive a kiss from him if she gives him half of her royalties. What the hell kind of apology is that?
I do hope that good comes out of this, and that Susan’s dreams come true. I also hope that this isn’t lost on people and that we can take some of it away and become better people. We are a society that judges books by their covers even while we are taught to do otherwise.
I am even put off by some of the comments left by people after the article. So many people are preaching about Susan’s inner beauty. I just wonder how many of those same people would have seen her inner beauty before hearing her wonderful voice. Or how many would have had the same comments had Susan been onstage for something entirely unrelated to music, for something that required no sound at all.
I thought she was very funny, cheeky and saucy before she started to sing.

She humiliated the judges; they tried, but failed to humiliate her, because she already knew she had talent. I completely agree with you about the “talent” show’s penchant for setting people up to look and feel stupid. I don’t watch television anymore, but I did see the youtube video of her and she was/is magnificent!
