What Day is It?
With school now being out, I am in danger of not knowing what day it is. I found myself on a few occasions thinking, "yesterday was…..uh….ok, today is Friday."
So in the spirit of being a cool mom, I took my two boys and one of Sean’s friends to the Reed Gold Mine. We took a tour of the tunnels, which was very cool, literally because it was 50* down in the cave. After that we panned for gold. Each boy found some gold flakes which the man put into a small vial for each of them to take home. I also bought them little pouches of tumbled stones. Welcome to hot and humid North Carolina because it was unbearable even in the shade. They had a good time and I loved walking on the trails under the tree umbrella.
Im keeping my ears and eyes open for free or cheep activities for the boys..because this is going to be a long summer if I dont. I dont mind them playing the Wii and so forth but I dont want them doing it much. They learned some history today which is always a good thing.
So now we are home, and the sky is threatening to give us our daily afternoon summer thunderstorm. The three boys are playing Wii tennis and I have this gargantuan mountain of clothes needing to be folded. I have a tower of boxes that need to be packed and honestly I am content to just sit here. If I close my eyes and click my heels three times do you think it will all magically be done when I open my eyes?
No, I didnt think so either.
hey there, found u on the front page. that tunnel & panning experience sounds great…i live in cali & i think they have something like that around here. free/cheap stuff i like to do: free zoo/museum days, matinee movie, play catch in the park, checking out library books– i dont know how old your kids are, but hopefully they can enjoy some of these cheap ideas 😉 take care.
