my own face
i got a fright just now. but never mind that. today is a day off work, and its been passably executed thus far.
i have stopped by the bibliotek for a bit of meddling and the company of strangers, nigh – – and so i did overhear some amusing conversations, quite civil stuff – 2 men exchanging opinions with much chuckling and seasoned affectations. old friends. one called the other “Grumpy”.
the day’s history: i st artled myself awake late. the cats were at the top of the mattress, and smiled a bit hungrily when i opened my eyes. starve them and they will love you! i have found the answer to my desolate state.
after an hour of tidying and pacing thru my chill rooms, i went abroad. i brought a rag out my back door and i hand-mopped all the way down the flight of stairs. i carefully avoided spiders, but think i swept away some egg-sacs, tragically. it’s dim in my back hall.
i went out, and proceeded to cafe, with book, and had small sandwich, requesting the side be “half & half” but the waiter, a classic fellow, did not hear me and he brought my sandwich with a full side of their somewhat uninspired potato pieces. with the sandwhich, that is a terrible wight of a meal, and i wolfed it down, hungry but grudging my loss of the local greens, which are so fresh & chock full of vitamins.
the sandwich is a bit over seven dollars, a very good deal for a solid plate of local foodstuffs pleasantly if blandly prepared. most days they remember i like their fresh mint sauce, but i wont ask on days it is forgotten.
the book was a short one, something weighty & good by McEwan.
i had to wait to pay my bill, the gays were chattering in the back. they are all gays, quite adorable young ones. the sign outside advertizes somewhat anachronistically, “queer owned”.
i left, and the fellow was surly, his eyes strangely sharp. my dear Ulysses waved an farewell.
then i went to shops. bought four tins of cat dinner.
there are augers of spring abroad. it is a little sad. but my cats – the greater number – will greet their first spring. i must make a thorough cat entry soon. humbly.
work is my only social life, generally.
more later. i am quite pleased about tonights world wide listening party.
