has a winter been more arduous? i’d like to describe the struggle of the last 6 months, but how that withering pathos would blanche the page.

i do not like to be a bore.

yesterday was a trifle too warm, i found, on leaving work. today was nice: i caught the 6;30 am shuttle cross town, and from house to work i scrutinized the view – a ten minute ride, we had a detour to a new rider (this is a small bus that operates by a scheduling app, so the morning route is all people off to work, and the computer organizes pickups and drop offs, so every day is a fresh adventure) and rode along a part of the river i hadn’t seen lately. the river – a big one, important in native lore – has lost its ice cover, and just the last three days most of the ice chunks have melted. i looked for signs of life through all this dim blue pre-dawn light, and didnt see anyone. i saw a lonely tree on a bit of a hillock in the river. i saw the flats of mud and the ice still clinging to the river bank in long pieces.

we passed the short route to my work, and this pleased me.  i like a long commute on the bus.

we picked up some regulars. there was banter.
