my mom’s birthday

peggy joyce nixon was born to oscar fredrick, aka fred nixon (from oklahoma) and ruby dixie staton(from paris, texas) on
october 12, 1935 in hereford, texas.  she was one of 11 children.

fred had a job with the railroad, and ruby took in some ironing and cleaned for a couple of ladies and so the nioxon’s did not have to over-worry about finances or food.  fred bought some land and built his wife a house made from railroad ties.  in the hottest times of the summer you could still barely smell the creosote left in the wood.  fred dug ruby dixie a cellar in the back yard and gave her a rose garden around at the side of the house next to the chicken coop.  she had a real wash-house directly behind the house and a wringer washer.

peggy joyce got pregnant and had a son with a young boy when she was sixteen, but the boys’s mama and daddy didn’t want him to stay with that girl so right after the parents made the couple get married, the young man was shipped off to the military.  her son was called nicky.  he died in a tragic car crash when he was 4 months old.

james austin haney and peggy joyce nixon met and got married.  they had a son and called him jimmie.  he died when he was 4 or 5 months old.  my mom dropped him while giving him a bath in the kitchen.  their flooring was concrete.  she took him to the doctor and he told her to watch him.  a day or so later, we took a nap and he never woke up.
my mom was twenty-two when she gave birth to me.   she was 23 when her second son died.  she went on to have 3 more kids, another girl and two more boys.  one about every two years.

peggy was the best wife mother and sister and daughter that she could be.  she tried very hard to have everyone’s opinion of her to be a good one.

my mom died january 17, 1998.  she was 62 years old.
she was loved.  and she is missed.

Great entry. Fascinating life. How quickly we forget how much our ancestors struggled… and how much they won. Happy birthday, Peggy.

I still miss mine, too. August 15, 1999.

Many tragedies with the babies, really sad. I am so thankful she had you. And what a coincidence that I share the same birthday as your mother. This makes me smile.

that is a young age, and a hard life. she was a good woman and you love her. that is the best tribute. you love her.

I enjoyed reading about your family history. Our ancestors’ history will probably be more interesting stories than today’s modern people, which will probably just say they used a computer of some sort throughout their life. I’m sorry you lost your mom so early. We have something in common. My mom passed at the age of 51. 35 years later and I still miss her. We will always miss them. *hugs*

RYNote, you may not like the answer, I first looked a 3mm which I thought a little heavy, the next one dawn was I think 2.5mm; which I think is just under 1/8 of an inch. I will give it a hammered finish, this will make it wider and longer; so I shall have to go lite with the hammer or my daughters bangle could end up as mine!
