Do you read? What are your favorite book?

i’m doing some copy and paste work listing these questions.  i assume it’s "what are your favorite books?", with an s on the end.

i don’t read like i used to.  my tastes have gone through many cycles as well.
i don’t have the time to actually read books anymore.  i do a lot of reading here.  i hope that counts.

i was, in my day, a voracious reader.  i could sit up all nightor day and read read read.  about anything.  fiction, of course, has always been my favorite.  self help books litter my bookshelves even today after i finished slashing their throats and drinking in their life words.  it was good.  i even bettered myself in some cases.  or i learned how to stay out of someone elses messes.  i learned to clean up my own.

my eyes are not great anymore either.  i don’t want people to think i am trying to be a victim.  i’m not.  i just can’t see.  i was fine till we did all the chemo and crap.  i keep hearing from cancer people that living after cancer is different.  i agree.  i am grateful like crazy.  and there are lots of little weird  effects affects effects affects  (i don’t know) to be incorporated into our daily lives.  it’s one of the reasons i keep chanting to my doc, i am not trying to be a hypocondriac, but…. is this normal now?

i used to be a horror reader.  stephen king was my favorite writer.  poor guy, was is where i hold him on the favorites meter.

my list started out a lot of years ago with vc andrews and the very first novel about brother and sister in the attic.  big deal…. i already had that in my mom’s family.  i was reading a book called mandingo by ken ostott, when keith and i met.  he embarrassed me when he asked why is was reading such crap and gave me a book about irish potato farmers during the potato plaugue.  it was great and i don’t remember the title or writer.  at least i quit on the andrews writer.  and romance novels too.  especially ones like that one was.

i picked up a book of horror short stories by clive barker.  holy shit, he was freaky.  i loved freaky and read what i could find.  i have to back up a minute and say i tried to ready lovecraft and edgar allan poe and there was too much junk you needed to know in the background to "get" what the writers were saying.  barker was just as bad.  as far as it goes for me, the alice in wonderland book is the same.

i tossed dean koontz up in the air with the juggle of my writers until his stories seemed to be repetitive, and i quit reading.
i liked "interview with a vamp" by anne rice and quickly lost interest after that.  too much verbosity.  unneeded verbosity.
rl stine is a kick assed children’s horror writer.  bram stoker was boring, but it was cool to say you read his stuff.
i read some peter straub because stephen king said too.  he hangs out too close to anne rice in my opine.  wordy dude.

more lists…… i don’t want to do it.  i will just say i read anything off balanced or creepy.
my shelves are filled with religious stuff of religions, self help books and beading and jewelry making books.  that is of course the shelving i will give over to it.  my bookselves are full of boxes of beads and beading stuff.  i don’t have much space for books.

some of my friends and aquaintences are not this way….. they have thousands or hundreds of books in possession.  i have seen it.
i haven’t tried a kindle book yet.  it’s not what i bought it for.  i would like to try an audio book too.  "to kill a mockingbird" would be good if the right voice read it to me….

so that is it.  for the survey thing.

i actually feel pretty damned good today.  i am still real short of breath, but i am working around that and my days seem more productive.  yay me!

My favourite book is The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay. It’s about the life of this boy who discovers who he is and how strong he really is.

To me picking a favorite book would be like picking a favorite child. I love different ones the most for different reasons. But fiction absolutely. Audio books are awesome – you should try them. Librarys carry them. It’s what saved my sanity when I was driving more than an hour each way to work.

I had this really long note that OD ate. grrr. let me try to recap…. Familial resemblance – yep! Tessa has it too in mannerisms and some physical characteristics. Garret not so much. He too can be intense, and we are still trying to find how to channel him. They both see the visit here as a gift of Grandma, as they see this as Grandma’s home and the place in Vegas as only a waystation.

cont… Garret will be auditioning at the open auditions on the 29th for the Nutcracker too, both kids love dance, and we are all proud of Tessa’s achievement with making Company this year and her success in landing so many roles.

cont… The kids were pretty flipped out over the break-in but I think Mom and I were cool enough over it, although there was the sense of violation. We got it handled pretty promptly, but it still was a stressful situation. The Salmon was just a big funny – and I love how both kids will devour such healthy food. Tessa asked me to take a movie without telling me what was up, so thatlittle clip was all her idea and doing. She is amused by the reactions to it by folks. This of course feeds the muse and I see another video happening soon.

Wow! I am loving the way you are writing these! Also knowing that you and I share some of the same views on certain writers. My dad always called Rice a “Man Hating Bitch” lol
