Thoughts on Marriage, for SC

My thoughts, expressed here in response to a half-finished conversation about one- and five-year life plans with my fairly freaking new boyfriend, who kinda made me wonder if he was wanting me to talk about these kinds of things…

Here are my thoughts on marriage: I think the key is to choose someone with whom you are compatible, someone who wants the same things out of life as you do, someone who you like and have fun with, and then commit to them. Treat that person and your relationship with respect and as a priority. Then, you’re set.

I don’t think there is only one right person with whom to do this. I think there are several "wrong" people. I already do feel sure that you, SC, would not be the wrong person for me. I trust you. I believe you are after the same things as I am: security, comfort, a stable, happy, and fun life without a lot of drama.  So, while I’m certainly not expecting it, if you asked me to marry you right now, I would!

In that case, when we talk about our life plans, I do want to consider you. I feel a little strange about that, seeing as how it has only been a month or so that we’ve known each other, but…I like you. I can see a future with you. And, as you know from what I’ve told you about my past relationships, I am not the type that decides she should marry any old person who comes along and shows a little bit of interest.

So, I don’t know. Why don’t you finish up that second degree, get a 4.0, and next June we’ll both take the LSATs together? You in? Or if you don’t want to go to law school, let’s figure out how else our lives might work – together?
