Sunshine and productivity
Today is shining bright and I’m looking forward to being productivity. It’s amazing how a little bit of of sunshine can make the whole day a bit brighter and the outlook sunnier.
Yesterday I was very productive, drafting lots of patterns for garb I need to get sewn. I figured out the other day I was so stressed about having so much to do that I wasn’t actually working at anything. Strange how that works, the more you have to do, the more you stress and the more resistant you are about actually doing it. That said, I figured out how stressed I was about sewing all this stuff for other people so I resigned my position as Mistress of the Robes affective as of Memorial Day weekend, the next big local event for SCA stuff. I have a 7 week deadline to get all the stuff I have to do done then I’m done for good. I hate letting people down that I love but on the other hand, I need the break. Problem is, I leave big shoes to fill and it’s going to be difficult to replace me.
You may think I’m bragging but the truth is, I am a professional costumer and when you’re involved with a all volunteer group like the SCA, anyone with my talent volunteering their time is boon for the person receiving my garb. I have set the bar high with hand bead work and appliqué work for trims and tons of personally designed work for our new Baron and Baroness. They are good people with huge hearts and I love working with them. However, I have taken on so much and don’t have many people who have the time to help me. I do most of my sewing during the day so I have free time at night to spend with my family. The friend I’m on the outs with about birthday crap was helping me some but she’s hit and miss at best as far as when she’s able to help due to her health and emotional issues. I love sewing and it’s my one main creative outlet but when it comes to "having" to do stuff, it gets to be a drag. I have lots more to do before I retire from this position but at least I step down knowing that I did a good job.
If you really want to see what I can do, just look at the pic on page or my picture gallery. I sewed my wedding dress, my 2 bridesmaids, my husband’s suit coat, vest and tie and vests and ties for the 2 groomsmen and my son. That’s just for the wedding. I have done 2 complimentary outfits each for the B&B, 2 coats with appliqué work plus 200 hand stenciled war pennants for them to take to the latest event. I have promised them 2 more outfits for Coronation plus 4 more lighter weight outfits for camping events this Summer in a style I’m drafting patterns for.
I’m off to be productive and maybe take my lunch outside today to enjoy the warmth and sunshine!
