Spring cleaning and April Fool’s Day fun!

So last week my son was off school for 4 days while the upper class men tested at his school. It’s not like this is the first time but with all the standardized testing the school district it’s doing, it’s getting pretty old. As a former teacher, it’s hard to keep kids on track and not teach to the tests, which is what the admin wants. Teachers try to just teach the materials and not get too obsessed with the tests but that’s not what the district wants and pretty soon you might as well have the kids just learn remotely and not bother with coming in for real human contact since it’s all about the tests. ARGH!!! At least Buddy is doing well in schools, all A’s and B’s, and seems to be thriving in high school. Not bad for an Asperger’s kid whom we doubted could be a success few years ago.

Hubby also had 2 days off last week due to working 10 straight so we spent some time outside cleaning up the yard. Last year we really slacked off and the result was overgrown vines and lots of crud and debris collected in our courtyard. We have an inner courtyard in our front yard, walling off half of the front yard to provide some privacy and giving us a nice quiet space off the street. We also have a huge backyard but given that it’s on the West side of the house, we don’t use it as much in hot weather. I’m really proud of what we managed to get done over the long weekend together.

The "girls" had a spa day at the groomers too so they are looking good too! Hubby had a wonderful Golden Retriever named Tara when we met and I have my Lab/Rottie cross, Aleeta. They get along well and it’s been one big happy family, plus 7 cats, since we joined forces. Actually, it was only 6 cats at the time but we ended up adopting another stray my BFF found at her condo complex. But here’s the pics of the puppy girls looking all pretty!!

Spring cleaning was good and now I just have to tackle the rest of the house!!! The back yard is next……
