Momma’s day and health update.

Mother’s day was great for me; spending time with family and being doted on by Hubby and Buddy. We visited with in-laws too for longer than expected but was all good. it was a great day topped off with home grilled steak supper followed by presents; dance video game that I wanted from Buddy and a massage GC from Hubby for our favorite spa, ahhhhhhh!

I don’t have "regular" in-laws to speak of, it’s actually Hubby’s aunt and uncle who were instrumental in his well-being while growing up. Hubby’s immediate family is gone now, his mother being the last to pass away 5 years ago. His only surviving family is 2 aunts and an uncle and he has no contact with his dad’s side of the family. His brother died of AIDS 25+ years ago, his father died of alcohol related health issues about 5 after that and his mom died about 5 years ago due to alcohol related health issues. His grandmother, whom he was really close to, died shortly after his mom. Growing up in California, he spent many of his Summers here with his aunt and uncle, Ruth and Charlie. She’s a social worker and he’s a physicist and they took care of his emotional well-being. During our receiving line after our wedding, we greeted them first and while hugging Ruth, she told me she was proud to call me her daughter-in-law. My heart swelled with such pride! They love Buddy too and consider themselves his grandparents so it’s a wonderful thing for him to have more family here as well. I may never know Hubby’s immediate family but I know and love the ones he does have!

The health update is as follows: Endocrinologist had a slightly different take on my health issues. The ENT read the ultrasound report wrong, no mass in my thyroid! But, my right side has atrophied so much that the left side is enlarged to make up the difference! In the CT scans she showed me where the left side is and how it’s displacing my windpipe! She said that explains a lot about the sore throat and swallowing issues. Also, the radiation from the breast cancer is probably to blame for the whole thing. My RA is probably aggravating it some but where my neck was irradiated probably is most of the cause. My levels are at the lowest end of normal and she’s putting me on a low dose of thyroid meds. I check back with her in 3 months but she’s hoping that if my thyroid is given support, the left side will shrink to normal size and my throat issues will resolve. Also, my RA will be better, I’ll be able to lose weight and I’ll have energy again!!!! I will continue to take the antacids for the reflux but also the thyroid meds now too so time will tell how things are working. BTW, the dr herself called me to give me the news on my blood work and how to take the new meds, outstanding doctor!!!

I’m optimistic about the new meds and my health.
