Jenn wrote me this a little less than a month ago, she named it “I Am the richest person in the world.” Well, here it is, and it made me happy.

Didn’t it.

In the beginning of time there was God. And God was in heaven. But He was not alone.

The Angels lived in heaven with God and they loved it there.

All day the angels played in heaven. They ran past gates of gold and jumped so high they flew over one another and then fell back down again.

Every night the angels would lay on pillows of ivory and watch the stars while people down on earth did the same but from much farther away.

One night the tiniest angel was laying too close to the edge of a cloud looking at the stars. So close his halo made of a silvery-blue diamonds fell to the ground far far below.

One tiny tear fell from the angels eye before God could pick up all the broken pieces and put it back together safely on the little angels head.

“I’ve grown” the angel said.

“You haven’t grown” God replied.

“I must have, my halo is too small for my head now God.”

Some pieces of the miniature halo had been scattered so far on the ground that God hadn’t picked them up and now the halo was the slightest bit smaller than it had been.

God touched the angels halo and once again it fit his head.

All was restored — almost.

Two tiny shattered pieces of the halo still lay somewhere safe together on earth.

One day many years later, a man, having no idea about the holiness he was about to encounter, came upon these two shattered pieces.

They shined like the brightest sun and almost blinded the man, making him fall to his knees. He picked up the pieces and decided that they were so precious, he must keep them to himself lest anyone steal them.

He told only his wife about his new found treasure, unfortunately, she had a big mouth.

Within a week everyone in every neighboring town had heard of the little pieces of heaven the man had found.

First there was jealousy. Everyone tried to top the precious jewels by buying expensive jewelry and diamonds any anything of great value that sparkled. But it was no use, no one could top the mans prize possessions.

Then there was greed. People from far and wide came with everything they owned, their money, their possessions, their wives, anything in order to bribe the man to trade for his pieces.

But most of all there was selfishness. The man, knowing what a great gift he had from God, would not share it with anyone, even the ones he loved.

God looked down and saw what the pieces had done to his people. He was disappointed and saddened by it all.

One morning before the sun could come up God came down and spoke to all the people.

“I have given you a precious treasure and you have used it to fuel your sin.” God said.

“You have taken pieces of heaven and turned them into greed and jealousy and selfishness.”

“To punish you all, I will take away the what’s left of this shattered halo and put them somewhere where everyone can see them but no one can ever touch them, and you will all know that your sin has done this.”

So he did.

He took the tiny pieces and put them inside a woman who loved him. This woman had a child. She had one son just as God had one son. And the two tiny pieces of halo rested forever in his eyes.

Precious jewels that he alone will own but isn’t even able to look at.

One day I met this carrier of holiness and I was stricken with overwhelming love. To my surprise this beautiful being loved me back, and in loving me back he gave me those two little pieces for my own, to look at and admire whenever i wanted, just as i always wished to look at and admire him… all. the. time.

I felt bad though, i had nothing to give back. So, i gave him my love, the only thing i had worth giving. So now, i hope you accept my love and keep it forever, like i will keep yours.

And i hope you accept my thanks – for making me the richest person in the world.
