A question!

(This is an email to my professor in response to us talking about how myths have ceased to change symbiotically with their culture, which he and many others regard as a bad thing.)

I haven’t read the essay “Religion and Science” yet, but do you think that religions ceased to change with advent of the idea of monotheism? It seems that polytheism was almost made for change, with stories untold and gods waiting to be discovered. But with the Jews, for instance, the world regarded them with disgust and hatred because they would not assimilate with the cultures around them. Did the death of maliable religion begin with the belief in an Absolute?

I think the whole “believing without seeing” thing is misconstrued by the general public as an excuse to be lazy so they don’t have any information to back up their beliefs and therefore miss the fact that there were reasons behind a lot of things tied to religion that are no longer valid in the modern world and need to be updated
