I’m not that much an old fuddy-duddy

Being the old fuddy-duddy that I’m becoming I usually read the letters to the editor in our local paper. Well the other day I read one that had one line that really irritated me. It was from a woman who identified herself as the mother of a teen who regularly goes to her child’s school. Then she proceeds to launch into a whole diatribe about the lack of a proper dress and makes it sound like every young girl is dressing like the stripper.

Okay I get it this mother is a bit straight laced and apparently longs for the dress of the 50’s or something, must be fun being her kid. But then there was the line that just got under my skin. "The entire aura felt while walkingg through hallways is of chatter, laughter and an easy feeling of maybe being at the beach." What the heck is wrong with chatter and laughter in the halls. Yes the kids are at school but the hallways are not class so chatter and laughter is fine. I would argue that the chatter and laughter is a good sign of a strong school that has both community and doesn’t so overly stress out the kids. Would she be happier if all the kids were moving between classes with grim faces and in silence. It’s a school not monastery and she needs to realize that.

Okay enough of that, I just had to get it off my chest.  Other than that not really much going on in my little corner of the world.  I did only sleep about 4 hours last night I just couldn’t unwind after work and since I had closed it was after 10 when I got home.  Now today I’ve got to open so I’m on my way out in a few minutes.  Staying awake should be fun and of course trying to seem happy and alert.

Have a great day and make someone smile.

Random Noter: Been a few years but when I was in HS there was definitely laughter and fun in the halls. Usually if things weren’t chatty and up beat then a fight was about to break out. That sounds worse in my opinion. Kids don’t need more pressure and tension. Those few minutes between classes are a great break before the next class starts.

I definitely understand her point about dressing appropriately, However she’s wrong – laughter and chatter do belong in the halls of a school.

a feeling of being at the beach? It’s been quite some time, but I sure don’t remember feeling like I was at the beach during passing period when I was in high school. What the hell is THAT supposed to mean? Sounds like she’s a real wack-a-doo.

I find people who write to the editor need a bone to pick, and usually their topic is only a surface issue. 😛 I can’t read the editorials for that very reason…lol 😉 guess I’m safe from being a fuddy duddy 😉

I agree with you…happy kids are productive kids anyway!

RYN: It’s actually not hard at all – you just use the sparkler to write in the air, like you would with your hand. That’s what’s so cool about that technique, it just captures whatever you “paint” or “write”. 🙂

….except that you do have to remember to write backward…so that’s probably the hardest part! 🙂
