The Wind Cries Mary
Song Paintings opens on the 11th September.
Only one painting is being obstinate and defies completion – The Wind Cries Mary. It has some red that died and other colours have gotten muddy. I added some light grey today. When it dries I will add some very pale orange similar to one of the earlier applications. It might get too pale as a result. Then I will appraise if the black and crap red are still too evident and take it from there. I am sure I will have it in a satisfactory state in time for the show if I keep going at the current rate of knots. The Wind Cries Mary started with a field of brown green, it might need to finish with some more, so long as it isn’t muddy.
I finished All Along the Watchtower this morning. I just added some pale grey over the last application of brown and it looked complete. I thought it might need some red magenta and black to tie back into the underlying colours but that turned out to be unnecessary. It is a bit darker than the others but it is good that there is a range.
I used Crosstown Traffic for the invite. It came up a beauty. All in all I am very happy with the canvases. I think the timing will be good too as it will be an excuse to have a post winter catch up. I was toying with the price I would like for each painting. I was thinking $600 but Claudia talked me down to $550.
When I moved the big paintings out of the lounge room A1 left paint on the wall. Lucky we plan on painting the walls! When I moved them I saw A1 and Crane and 83 Williams Road anew. It is a shame that I have all these large canvases with no outlet for them. It makes me think I should have a vanity show at Bright. But that is only a fall back position as there is no fear of sales at Bright.
We have opted not to see a film tonight, just a dinner in Yarraville as Claudia wasn’t ever really into seeing Cowboys and Aliens. Communication is good at the moment.
