Peter Lloyd
My uncle Peter has died. The funeral is tomorrow. I have not seen him for years, he was in a long decline. Greta died last January when we were in Perth so I did not attend her funeral. I have heard cousin Samantha is not too flash either.
I have walked nearly every day this year. I think the time to exercise and paint on paper has been great but Claudia said these holidays were no good because she didn’t get to do anything. Apart from the time in Perth she spent a few days of the break doing course work for the Certificate IV and emailing work. I think she wants it a bit both ways in that she said she wanted a break from work but then she didn’t take the opportunity to do that. She instead is pinning her hopes on Fiji in April. Apart from concern over the comments Claudia has been making, like that I should be earning more and that I should be smiling more, I have been having a fine old time.
I went to the Mad Square exhibition last Friday which was German modernism around 1910 to 1933. It was interesting and worth seeing but not a must see or totally inspiring. It had Dada and Bau Haus and so on and generally is a period I enjoy. I enjoyed the Klee’s of course, they were beautiful. I left with the sensation I often get after a seeing a show of disappointment in that my art will never be similarly displayed and enjoyed even though given the same opportunity it is just as worthy. I guess I should burn some cds and do the rounds of the galleries again.
After the show I went to Les Goodwin’s for beer o’clock. I left when Andrew turned up the music to a level you had to shout over. Les has a lot of entertainment toys, you wouldn’t know he is a couple of decades older the way he has adopted the technology. We talked about the usual beer o’clock drivel, Michael Clarke’s triple century and what songs we would like at our funerals.
I bought an outdoor setting from Bunnings yesterday that Claudia chose. It will be handy for when my sister comes next Sunday which should be a bit of fun.
