I am reading Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman at present at the suggestion of my counsellor. It mentions the Nicomachean Ethics by Aristotle so I asked dad how you pronounce that. When I responded I was reading a book called Emotional Intelligence when he asked why I inquired he took an immediate dislike to the title! It is funny on a lot of levels. He was basically saying that a lot of books raise the subject of brain anatomy to support prejudices that the author already has rather than writing about findings that follow from the structures and chemistry of the brain. In the end though he was just being prejudiced himself against talking about emotions. The book itself I am finding very insightful and interesting. One of the scenarios it mentions is that we can make snap emotional decisions with incomplete evidence that bypass the longer path from the thalamus to the amygdala through say the visual cortex and instead travel directly. I think when dad hears emotional intelligence he has a reaction just like that! he is immediately indisposed to appreciate the subject.

After what was I think our forth session Adam said there was little for us to do at present as I am happy with everything so there was no need to see him for a while. I will check back in a few months or so unless anything arises in the meantime.

Next week I am taking holidays unexpectedly because Claudia’s travel plans to Fiji had to be cancelled due to the terrible weather they have been inundated by. We are going to Lorne for a couple of days with her mum. I am looking forward to it.

Work is pretty quiet, just the odd task to keep me out of trouble. Today Arthur found out that having quotes in a document title in genesis breaks the Flex that does the page reordering. I should fix it I suppose but for now we just took the quotes out of the offending title.
