School

So remember my last entry where I was excited about K-2? Yeah, I’ll take a little of that excitement back…but just a little.  Most of them are very well behaved and since some of them were in my class last year, they know my expectations.  There’s this one little boy I had to deal with yesterday, Sam.  He’s in the class with his older brother, which doesn’t help because they just talk and talk and talk.  Anyway, he was causing some trouble so I put him in timeout and he cried! I’m used to it so it didn’t phase me, but what I did realize is that I disciplined him in front of the whole class, which probably made him feel embarassed, hence the crying.  I thought about this later and next time I’ll probably engage the rest of the class in something and discipline the child quietly.

Later, Sam was causing trouble again! So, another timeout (but less obvious to other students) and this time, he ran away! I didn’t know where he was and couldn’t leave the rest of my class to go look for him.  Then I figured out his mom teaches dance right across the hall and figured he probably ran in there! Little twerp!  Anyway, I went in after the kids were gone and talked to his mom about the timeouts and him not being able to follow directions in my classroom.  She looks at me and says "Well, he’s only four!"  WHAT?!?!?!?!?! He’s not supposed to even be in my class! No wonder he doesn’t know how to behave! He’s never been in a classroom situation like that before. UGH! I told mom that it didn’t matter, he still needed to know how to act in my classroom.  She kind of gave me a look like I was silly or something, but if you’re going to send your child to my class to be babysat, they need to behave because their misbehavior disrupts all of my other good students! I was a little peeved!  Even the secretary, the "vice-principal", and Amy said he should not be in that class. Geez!

So, on a happy note, we got to take a tour of our new school yesterday.  It seems like there’s still so much to do, but we have been told Spetember 30th is the finish date so we have faith!  I got to see my classroom.  It’s smaller that I expected, especially since LeAnn kept saying it was huge!  Amy and I hung out for a while trying to figure out where we were going to put everything and how we would arrange our rooms.  It’ll be tricky, but hopefully we can do it.  The school is beautiful and we were all smiles and "oohs" and "aahs".  Everybody is very excited!  Wish I had pics to show you all, but I don’t!

That’s all!

I agree, if you’re going to put a child in school, they NEED to be up to the challenge. Period. RYN: Well, come up with a date and time and we’ll see what we can do! I’m pretty open, so you can pick just about any time and I can work around it. Maybe give me a few options and I’ll let you know what works best for me? It’ll be fun!

What the heck? If the child is 4 he should not be in a K class for you to babysit!! That’s crazy!

Wonder if the VP would consider taking him out of the class? Or at least threaten the mom with it. Having ADULTS who don’t take your work seriously is always my biggest pet peeve.
