it’s-a mario!

I blush and smile whenever you tell me I’m beautiful. I know it’s true, and yet still find it hard to believe sometimes. Please don’t ever stop.

I can only remember my dreams when I’m in the half-state between dreaming and wakefulness. This morning I had kind of a strange one. My sister was playing Super Mario 64, and I was watching.. or I was Mario. I actually kept switching between the two. Anyway, it was the very beginning of the game, and she had gone into the dungeon of the castle in order to drain the moat. (If you’ve never played the game, you probably aren’t getting this, but that’s okay). Well first of all some strange things (like Mario getting kicked back out into the hallway by a spring-trapped platform) kept happening, but for whatever reason, I didn’t think anything of those.

After she drained the moat, a dialogue screen popped up, but it wasn’t anything like the dialogue screens that usually pop up in Mario. It kind of looked like the bank dialogue in Runescape, only blue. And it said something that I don’t remember, but also said “Please choose an illegal item from this screen” and it had a bunch of Runescape-esque weapons, and also some rings that appeared to have special powers. When the dialogue screen closed, there was a giant monster made of green fire. It did not appear that my sister saw the monster, as she simply made Mario jump into hole in the floor that led to one of the game worlds.

And then I woke up.

And suddenly I had a videogame craving. *laugh* But the thing is. I’ve already beaten Super Mario 64. Not only have I beaten it, but I’ve gotten all 120 stars as well. And shot up onto the roof of the castle after beating it to talk to Yoshi and get the 99 lives and the secret triple jump *smirks.* I’ve done that three times already. My dad had this guide book (borrowed from a friend, so we no longer have it) that claimed that the special secret triple jump would unlock other worlds within the game, but we’ve never been able to find them.

So after I woke up, I did a google search for “Super Mario 64 cheats”. Except for a couple things that were more glitches than actual cheats, I didn’t learn anything I didn’t know. Oh except for the fact that the final Bowser says something different if you have all 120 stars than if you don’t have all the stars. (again, not really a cheat though.) But I’ve only ever beaten Bowser with all the stars *smiles.* All the actual cheats require the use of GameShark. Which I don’t need. Because I already beat the game.

I need a new game. *pouts*

My mom got hooked on one of the mario games. I don’t remember which game she was into, but she got obsessed with beating it. And did. Before my teenaged brother. He was not happy, but his friends thought mom was pretty damn cool!

And there you have it, ladies & gentlemen: the geek!

There will be a new Mario later this spring for the Nintendo Wii. I can’t wait!

I’ve never gotten close to 120 stars. I gave up. Honestly, I hated that game, I just played it because we had it. I liked making Mario run into walls and groan. Chrono Trigger? Super Mario RPG? I have that damn boss music stuck in my head. I could give you Smash Bros on emulator. Seriously, I have a functional N64 emulator. Looks cleaner than the system itself. Everplay the old Dragon Warrior series? Dr. Mario? Uhh.

I love going back and playing the original NES games. There is something relaxing about going through the original Mario Bros., or Contra, or any of the Castlevania games and crushing them. I remember for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for the PS1, I was missing only one thing from my first run through the game. However, that one thing only appeared at the very begining of the game. So, I…

…went through the entire game all over again so I could get that one lousy thing. Since your dream was on Mario, have you ever played Mario RPG? I think it was one of my favorite Mario games ever. Anyway, that’s my rant. Robert
