cut off.

You never realize just how much one piece of technology means to you until you don’t have the ability to use it anymore.

As I mentioned in the previous entry, my cell phone services have been (mostly) cut off. I say mostly, because I still have the ability to recieve incoming calls. I just can’t send or recieve text messages, and I can’t make outgoing calls. This also means that if I miss a call, and it goes to voicemail, I don’t have the ability to check my voicemail to see what the call was about.

And yes, at least I do still have my computer, with access to the internet, but the people that I usually talk to on the phone are people that are not near their computers very often. So to say that I’m feeling a little disconnected from the world right now is an understatement.

Worse still, is when people say that they’re going to call because they know you have no way of getting in touch with them, and then they don’t. My mother was supposed to call today. I even gave her a six hour window in which to call, that I wouldn’t have classes or work. Nada. To add insult to injury, I was expecting a call from one of my best friends. At the very least, I expected a quick, “Hey, things got busy, so I can’t really talk now, but I’ll call you later,” sort of call. Normally if I was expecting a call from someone, but they didn’t call when I expected, I’d take the initiative and try to contact them. Oh right, but I can’t do that.. I’m cut off.

My phone right now serves little purpose other than a glorified alarm clock.

Big thank you thank you thank yous to Rob and Mel. I love you guys.

Check out Skype. It’s telephone via your computer and right now (until Jan 1) they are offering free outgoing calls to landlines anywhere in the US. So, you can download Skype and call anyone you want for free as long as you have an internet connection and a microphone on your computer. It works great and the sound quality compares to your average cell phone. Mark (meverha1@gmail.com)
