Mistakes
I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. I try to help people when I can. And, once again, it has bitten me in the ass again. So frustrating.
So at this baby shower I went to (for someone I don’t really know actually but she was nice) I discovered that one of the friends there likes to take pictures. She wants to get serious about it. I thought “Oh cool! So she must at least kind of know what she’s doing. Maybe she could take some informal photo’s for me for our Christmas card since the self timer bit isn’t going to work with a 2 1/2 year old this year.” So I ask her and I should have looked more into what I was getting myself into before I did. I jumped in feet first and it’s come back to bite me in the ass.
First of all she sees herself as a “purist”. What she believes this to mean is “Photo’s should be perfect without any editing.” ::headdesk:: So she gets a few decent shots that I can use (but was going to edit them for a few little things) and asked her if she could burn me a disc with the full res images. I ask this b/c she uploaded them to facebook and, while I downloaded them from FB that means the resolution isn’t the best and I wanted to make sure the cards look nice. She says sure. She says she put it in the mail. This was irritant #1. She lives one town over. Why couldn’t she just drop it off or I could have stopped by her place to pick it up?
A week and a half goes by and I still don’t have the disc. So I finally ask her what’s up and she says she’s so sorry, she sent it over a week ago! Ok, well, I need to order these before they end up being New Years cards. I ask her if she could upload them to flickr? Sure she says. She messages me the next day. Her old laptop (that the photos are on, which apparently she didn’t transfer everything to the new Mac she just bought) keeps shutting down while trying to upload and the only way she can think the get them uploaded is to come over and do it on my computer.
At this point why not burn me another cd and bring it over and that way I don’t have to clean my 2nd floor for you to come use my computer. Seriously!? At the point I’ve said “fuck it” and feel the $40 we gave her even though she said she didn’t want paid was a total waste. $20 was for the rental of the lens which was what I told her I would pay for if she took the photo’s for us as I couldn’t NOT pay her for her time. Then I slipped an extra $20 for her time but didn’t tell her.
If she SERIOUSLY wants to start doing photography she needs to do a few things. First of all she needs to take a class or 2. Just having nice equipment (like she’s planning on buying at tax time, a Canon Mark II) doesn’t mean you take great photos. Secondly she needs to have back ups of her shit so when her computer dies she can still get people their shit.
Since I waited so long for her I have now missed out on shutterfly’s 30% off deal AND the free shipping. I still got 20% off but had to pay shipping and I’m really just super pissed off about the whole thing. I had to pay almost $15 more than if I had just ordered them with the photo’s I downloaded from facebook 2 weeks ago (which is what I ended up doing in the end anyway).
Not to mention I’m still nauseated 24/7 and barely eating and my in-laws come in 2 weeks for a 2 week stay and I haven’t finished my Christmas shopping. *deep breath* I want my Mommy!
