Checking In

Things have been so hectic I haven’t been faithful about posting.  Things are going mostly well.  I’ve been feeling down, back pain, migraine, nausea. Uck.  i don’t get sick often, but when I do, I seem to go all the way with it.
Work has been going well, but I imagine they are a bit put out with me this week, since I haven’t been in at all.  Another doctor’s appointment tomorrow, so it’s a no go til next Tuesday on working as it will then been my four regular days off.
My recently purchased car is temporarily kaput, so I’m back in my van.  It’s a huge Ford cargo van that my co-workers have affectionately dubbed the" pedophile van".  I’m used to enduring the comments about painting it to look like an ice cream truck to attract small children. I work with dorks.
Unfortunately, repairs are going to take a while.  The most conservative estimate on repairs is nearly $1000.00, which is more than I can come up with right now.  School starts next month, high school for Brian and college for Brad.  School clothes and supplies have to come first, and at least I have a back up vehicle. Brian is also warting me to death to get him a vehicle because he wants a job.  Too many things going on with these guys at once.  I am coming to the conclusion that single parenting is not for the fainthearted, lol.  Feel like a circus juggler with one hand tied behind my back some days.  But we manage somehow, by the grace of God.
I’ve been looking for a part time job to cover the extra expenses, but so far no luck.  I’ll keep on plugging, sooner or later someone will give me a job.  Been here many times in the past, and a couple of the old places will probably take me back, but I really don’t want to have an office job, or drive to the far side of Houston for them, which is where they would be.  Mileage would take away from the extra money too much, and drive time in Houston traffic is a beast.  That will be a last resort for me.
Other than that, I’ve been trying to get my yard in order.  I was without a mower big enough to do my yard until recently, and it got out of hand.  Been working on it for several days, but rain has kept me from finishing, and the rain is causing the grass to grow back that I’ve already mowed.  I can already see the day when a push mower will not be something I can do on this yard.  it’s a big yard, and an all day job now.  In ten more years…..no way.  A nice riding mower is in the financial planning in the next year or two, lol.
My ex-wife Judy told me today that she only has two more days of clinical work at the Veteran’s Hospital and she will be finished with nursing school.  All she has left is to pass the state board test and she will be a licensed vocational nurse.  The nursing supervisor at the VA hospital is encouraging her to work there, and is impressed with her.  I’m as excited for her as she is nervous about doing well on the last of her clinicals.  She went to nursing school briefly when we were first married WAAAY back in the dark ages of the early 80’s, but gave it up to be a stay at home mom.  This has been her dream as long as I’ve known her, so I’m glad she is finally realizing it.  If anyone was ever born to nurture and care for people, it’s her.   At 52, she’s proof that it’s never too late to realize your dreams and ambitions.
I was going to call my old high school friend Gregg tonight, but let the time get away from me and didn’t.  His health has not been good, so I feel a bit guilty for not calling, but will make sure I do tomorrow.
Well, it’s getting close to 11pm here in my corner of the Lone Star State and the dishes still haven’t been done.  I can’t gripe at the  boys because it’s my night, so time to exit OD and get them done.
I hope everyone has a good day tomorrow, or today depending on where you are on this big blue marble.  Have a great weekend guys, "talk" to you soon.  – John

Sure sounds like you’re really feeling under the weather….but hopefully you’re on the mend now. Denise and I are both dealing with summer colds here at our place, and I feel that bronchitis that I always end up dealing with… You have a nice weekend!
