Lies about education…

Sometimes I am just wondering and in awe at how much bullshit we are being fed as a child you know?! Right now I am just pondering the whole point of studying to get an education. When I was growing up in Germany people always told me: You need to complete your job training because this way you will always earn more money as you will if you don’t. You see in germany we don’t go to university for most jobs instead we complete a three or four year apprenticeship to work in pretty much any field. The obvious types of jobs are for example florist, butcher, hair dresser, electrician etc. But we also do not go to college to do payroll or work in an office in general. We do not go to college to become nurses or medical assitance either. We don’t "study" to work as a civil servant or a secretary… it’s all done through on the job training in Germany. Only to become a Doctor or Lawyer or engineer or Psychologist or something you need to go to University and study.

Now, I always wanted to go to University to study but…  I didn’t do that… but that’s a whole other story that I might talk about some other time.

anyway… as I said when I was a kid I was always told I need to complete my training to earn more money etc…

Now… I have friends who have BAs, Masters and even PHDs ok… and they earn less money than me. I did not study in the field I am working in whatsoever but I learned by doing and I am now getting a decent enough salary. Now my friend who has a PHD has recently applied for a job and was offered 25K per annuum. Now in Ireland that’s not a great salary… that’s what I earned five years ago when I started in my company… I am now earning close to 40K… and that without a college or other type of formal education… so… WTF??? What is wrong with the system.. what are all the lies that are being told?!

I fairness I hold 3 massage diplomas and have also completed a Life Coaching course this year but I was on my salary more or less before I got the latter… and massage has nothing to do with my current job.

I do read a lot and I teach myself a lot of things myself but…. it’s not "formal education"… so… thinking that a friend of mine who studied software development is getting probably around 10K less than me a year and a PHD educated person even less its… sorta crazy… I mean don’t get me wrong I am OBVIOUSLY not complaining and I know that if I lose this job I will be back to earning around 25K a year for sure and that doesn’t really bother me… but what I am saying is that I find it OUTRAGOUS that someone who has studyind their WHOLE ADULT LIFE (!!!) to PHD standard is offered a pittance….. they should really cop on to themselves outthere and offer her a salary that reflects her talent and skill…. it’s a shame….

rant over…
