A smattering of elemental strategy

I have a few random things I wanted to say. Maybe they’ll become coherent, but I wouldn’t bet on it. You know what? I’m not even going to try. I’m putting dividers between them. Ha. I used to do that a lot, years ago, in this diary. My philosophy of fiction course was accepted! I’m madly excited. Spring ’06.Audrey introduced me to SinFest. How did I not already know about this brilliant strip!? Good God, is it funny. My favorite, though, is not at all typical. I find this one brilliant and sad and happy and touching and funny and it almost makes me want to cry. There’s this silly happy dog, see, and… wait, can I just put it in here? Let me try.

Like I say, don’t think this strip is typical. Usually, it’s a lot edgier, and sexier, and more blasphemous. I love it all, but I find this one really touching. It’s an altruism thing. Anyway, the strip is truly brilliant. Go start at the beginning and give yourself a treat. It’s resolution time, obviously, and I’d like to randomly comment on one sort of thing that I hear often. People, in an apparent attempt to become more independent, resolve to ‘not care what other people think’ about them. Now probably, there’s a very good intention and a solid idea behind most of these resolutions — some people certainly care too much about image and popularity. But to not care what other people think is just bull-headed and stupid. We should always be sensitive to those who think ill of us — we must strive to understand why they think that, and be able to responsibly determine whether they’re correct.

Yup, that’s my little speech. That’s all I’ve got for now. Houston is pretty much the same as ever. Unseasonably warm. And lots of attractive women around. I get up early to go to work.

‘night.

Oh yes. I’d never make that a resolution. I suppose Jess (or someone else) has introduced you to qwantz.com, but if not, meet eachother. That’s what I have to say, having been introduced, by you, to another fun web comic.

Your little comic strip appears to crash FireFox on Linux. [upgrades to newer version of FireFox to see if that works]

“I would like to care less about the things other people say about me, but I can’t imagine caring less. I think people pay heavy prices for armor and callousness.” — Tony Kushner Also, yes, qwantz.com! Dinosaur comics rock my world. It is the only webcomic from which I have purchased underwear.

Been a Sinfest reader four about three years. Brilliant art and lots of clever bits. For even more esoteric material, you should check out the Perry Bible Fellowship [http://cheston.com/pbf/index.html] and A Softer World [www.asofterworld.com]. My two latest webcomic finds, both gorgeous/weird.

Crystal and I spoke tonight and you came up in the conversation. I just wanted to tell you. And of course, only wonderful things were said 🙂

For the record, I agree entirely with your opinion on that particular strip. Thanks for sharing it.

RYN: Your jealousy is all part of a grander plan, you know: Get you to become ridiculously green so that you tug on your short hair in frustration and you HAVE to come to Toronto so we can all hang out (you, me, Crys) and have a snowball fight then I can hear you sing in person. I’ve said too much.

January 6, 2005

Oh, and to put your mind partially at ease, I think Crys brought you up in the conversation and one thing I mentioned was that, while you still look really good, I miss your long hair.

You just discovered Sinfest? Dear God, if I’d known, I would have told you about it years ago. Of course you’d love it.

I like the kitty in that strip. *waits for surprise*

Surprise? *confused* Who are you, anonymous noter?
