*yawn*
I’m sleepy and I don’t really feel all that great today. I dunno if I’ll stay at work all day but we’ll see how it goes I guess.
Work is really boring right now. Really slow. I’m hoping we get started converting our manuals over to HTML soon. It’s sounding like we’re going to do a half and half thing. Some of our manuals will stay in Lotus Notes and go to the Intranet that way others will go to the Content Management Software IT wants us to use. Personally I think they should all go to Notes but I’m not going to complain because I’d like to “borrow” the content management software to use for my own purposes. hehe
Since I have nothing to do I’ve gotten started on my online courses. My boss is having us take whatever online courses we think might benefit us. The site the company uses is free for one year. It sucks really bad though. I decided to start with something “beneath” me to get used to the courses and how they work so I started with an Intermediate level Microsoft Word course. This stupid course has done nothing but piss me off. I KNOW all the information in it but I can’t pass the damn test because the course is inflexible. If you make any click on the window, even accidentally it counts that as your answer and marks you wrong. It also only allows one way of doing everything even though Microsoft word may actually have multiple ways you can do one thing. For instance to enter a number in a box to tell MSWord how many columns you want in a table. There’s two ways of doing this. You can hit the number on the keyboard or you can use the little up and down arrows in the textbox to click up to the number you want. Well, in the test if you opt to use the arrow keys in lieu of your numeric keypad you get told “WRONG!”. Excuse me??? I don’t think so. What is this online course doing? It’s teaching me how to pass it’s test. It’s teaching me to be narrow minded and inflexible when it comes to using computer programs. That’s not how you’re supposed to teach someone to use a computer. If Microsoft opts to give me 2 or even 10 ways to do one thing the course should allow you to use any one of those 10 things. I’m going to be pretty pissed if I can’t pass this test with a flying 100% because I know the fucking material like the back of my hand. I just have to learn exactly what the test wants which isn’t right at all.
So, in other news. Well, actually there isn’t any other news. I’m going to go now. 🙂
Welcome to the world of education, where students are taught to pass tests and not taught information. Sad, isn’t it!
