Weight & Spring
I’ve been back at exercising. I started again on Monday. It’s been almost a year since I’ve done it religiously. I still lost weight regardless because I’ve been eating better, I never stopped that. That in and of itself was what motivated me to get back into the ole’ workout routine. I mean, think about it. I lost close to 30lbs without working out, imagine what I could have done if I had been working out?!
I’m using the “Yourself! Fitness” program for XBox. My first thought when I saw it was that it seemed silly but it’s surprisingly good. It does a good job mixing cardio with weight training. I get so sore though from the weight training. My arms and upper chest are still sore from Tuesdays upper body workout. I had to skip yesterdays workout because I was so sore. Today I did core body muscles so tomorrow my abs are going to ache. It’ll be worth it though to build more muscle. The more muscle you have the more fat you burn, even at rest!
My goal is to get back down to the weight I was when I moved here by December. It’s a reachable goal. I had originally wanted to be down to my ultimate goal weight by then but it’s not likely that I can do that and still lose weight at a healthy pace.
If I can get this icky weight off I will be able to say I’m happy with myself. Life is good otherwise. I had a lot of emotional garbage to straighten out before I could really focus on weight-loss. Hubby and I were talking about this Tuesday night. For so long we’ve had so much other stuff going on in life. Financial troubles, car troubles, job troubles. All that stuff gets in the way of focusing on yourself. That stuff is cleared away now and we’re both focusing on our health and fitness now.
It’s finally really starting to feel like spring is here. It got warm for a week and then got really cold again. Now it’s probably going to consistantly warm up. I want to try to get the outside of the house looking nice this spring. We spend a lot of time on the inside since that’s where we spend most of our time. The outside looks neglected. I want to try and actually get the garden looking nice for a change. Every year I plant pansies there and they die because I stop watering them. I suck. This year I want to buy another flowering bush of some type to fill in where one died. Then I’d like to fill the rest of the garden with Creeping Phlox. That’ll take care of the yearly problem with that garden looking like crap. Creeping Phlox are easy to care for and they look nice when they flower. They also like full sun, which is what that garden gets. Then I’ll plant my normal annuals (pansies & marigolds) in pots around the walkway and porch every year.
I want to have hubby put something around the perimeter of our driveway to discourage people from driving in our grass. We finally got hubbys dad to stop doing it. He would drive through our yard to get wherever he needed to go in our large yard because he’s cripped. We finally put an end to that. It would infuriate me to come home and see tire tracks through our grass! Now the problem is losers who turn around in our driveway. I looked out the window the other night when I heard someone in our driveway and the jerk was in our grass!! I HATE living on a busy road. I want to put something, rocks, railroad ties, I don’t know, around the driveway to keep people out of the grass.
Another downside to living on a busy road is not being able to open the windows. I can open the windows on the back of the house but I spend most of my time in the front of the house where the road is. I opened the office window the other day but had to shut it again because I could no longer hear myself think. I really wish we could just pick this house up and drop it somewhere out in the middle of nowhere!
In other news we have a coyote hanging around! We actually saw it last summer. We were out in the yard cutting the solar cover we bought to fit our little Intec Pool. Anyway we saw it come out of the woods, stop at the edge of the yard and watch us. Neither of us had ever seen a Coyote up close before so we stood there staring back at it pondering if it really was a Coyote. Our neighbors two doors down confirmed that it is, in fact, a Coyote. And they’ve been feeding it! ARGH!! I was fine with having a Coyote hanging about, being from Oklahoma I’m used to it, I was hoping it’d help with the mouse problem around here. But when people feed Coyote’s they become brave around people and that’s how people, especially children, end up getting hurt by them.
I talked to the repair shop that has my flute. They called me to verify the total estimate on my flute. I had gotten an estimate when I dropped it off but it was just something the guy behind the desk looked up in a book. The repair guys actually looked at it and gave me a more firm estimate and wanted to make sure I was okay with it. They’ve had it a week and a half and all they’ve done is an estimate. I’ll have it back in another two weeks. I think I dropped it off too close to all the school spring breaks. All the kids probably have their instruments in for adjustments. I’m slightly annoyed that it’s taking a month for them to fix my flute but at this point there’s not much I can do about it. All the places I checked with were backed up about the same amount of time. This place didn’t warn me that they were backed up but it doesn’t really matter since I’d have left it with them regardless. I’ve used them before so I trust them. In two weeks I’ll have it back and it’ll be as good as new! All I have to say is thank goodness I have a backup flute.
Anyway, I think I’ve rambled long enough so I should go. I need to scoop litter boxes, shower, then get ready and go to the store. I need to buy a mini-blind for the office and some laundry detergent.

Muscles need 48 – 72 hours to repair themselves. As you probably know, if you keep at lifting, you shouldn’t be sore afterwards. In the beginning, by all means, rest up and wait until you’re not sore. Takes a bit for our bodies to get used to being used.

Good policy is to lift no more than every other day, and do cardio-related things either between those days, or after you’ve lifted.

Wow, that X-box game sounds kinds neat. You live on a busy street AND you have a coyote? I hope he doesn’t get hit by any cars. Around here, animal control always picks them up.
