Scotch & Halloween
This week has been a little nuts. Wednesday I drove up to Northampton, Ma to see a show. Last night was Whisky club down at the pub. We sampled Scotches that the pub owner has been trying to get his hands on for three years, and finally did. It was from Compass Box, we tried their Asyla, Oak Cross, Hedonism, and Peat Monster. They were decent, but not amazing, they were all blended Scotches. I’m not sure why he was trying so hard for so long to try them other than to prove that blends can be respectable whiskies, and they certainly can be. My favorite was the Peat Monster, but I’m biased because I love peaty Scotch. I was happy when the pour on the peated one was a little heavy-handed. 🙂 It was nice even though it doesn’t come close to as good as my favorite peaty single malt. And the same was true with the others, Hedonism was the best and boldest non-peated, with the Asyla being my least favorite, it was a blend of Speyside Scotches, but it was lacking something that even my favorite inexpensive Speyside single malt has. I would happily drink any of them if someone offered me some but I’m not going to rush down to the store to buy a bottle. Anyway, enough boring you with my Scotch notes.
Tonight is a halloween party and show, then tomorrow is a huge halloween party at the pub, plus we somehow have to sneak out and make an appearance at a friend’s halloween party. I hope to find some time to sleep on Sunday, maybe? I don’t know, it’s getting legitimately cold here now and we need to check the chimney and move our firewood in so we can start burning and stop using the oil so much.
I have to finalize my setlist for Saturday. It’s going to be weird playing a set dressed in costume to a bunch of people also dressed in costume. It’s Celtic and American Folk music, of which, most of what I do is serious. Fortunately my costume is mostly just regular clothes and no makeup or anything. I’m not revealing what it is to anyone until afterwards. So, pics on Sunday, or next week or something. 🙂
I probably won’t be on here between now and Sunday, so if you’re celebrating Halloween this weekend… Have a blast!
Looking fwd to the pix. Enjoy, and designate a driver!

There was a Scotsman in the army years ago, who drank a scotch called Glenmorangie. Chatting with him was always fine as we got close to each other to hear what we were saying above the cacophony around us but, as soon as he had a couple of these it would make his breath smell so bad. It became repulsive. Sounds like you had fun ‘testing’ them all. 🙂
I could definitely see that being a problem, especially if it’s one of their smoky ones. The smell can be pretty repulsive if you’re not into it. Good thing to keep in mind!

I love Northampton. I remember when I got back to Massachusetts and we went to NoHo to go shopping, and I ran into lesbians wearing fanny packs. They were everywhere. It was home.
Found you on the front page, you look interesting, so I’m gonna follow. 🙂
