Random Ramblings

So, I finally got ahold of my dad. I called while he was napping, hehe, oops. He said my grandpa was doing better, that the stroke wasn’t as bad this time. They’re waiting on test results and will probably let him go home tonight or tomorrow morning. yay!

This new wife of my dads is a really good home nurse apparently. I like her, honestly I wish he’d met her sooner. Dad was telling me about how she’s gotten my grandpa to do stuff. Apparently before she came along all he was doing was laying on the couch all day without even getting dressed. Dad said she’s making him get up and get dressed, eat and ‘do something’. They even planted a garden together. Although it’s hard for me to see my grandfather this way, treated like a child basically, it’s nice to see how well she’s doing with him.

My dad sounded good tonight. It’s hard, I never know how he’s going to be when I talk to him. It’s always been so up and down with him. Sometimes he’s the dad I remember adoring and other times he’s the dad I always wished would go away. I wish he’d keep going to see his psychologist and work a little harder on getting himself straightened out fully instead of being so hard headed. I know there’s a wonderful person in there, I caught a glimpse of it tonight. He drives me nuts because it’s so back and forth all the time. *sigh* At least today was a good day since I had to call him and all. 🙂

I had to laugh tonight. I got an e-mail from my mom. She was telling me about how their golden retriever was going nuts and growling and pacing when some guys came to install carpet in their living room. The golden retriever, Tisha, wouldn’t let the guys near my mom without herself between them. As soon as my step-dad came home though she stopped and was actually all buddy buddy with the carpet installer guys. My mom knows nothing about animals. She tries, but she just doesn’t know all that much about their behavior. From my reading I can tell that my mom is bottom in the heirarchy at that house. The other giveaway is that Tisha will actually back my mom into a corner over by the treat cabinet and demand a treat. All Tisha was doing with the carpet guys was protecting the lowest animal in the pack. When the top dog (my stepfather) came home her job was done, it was now his job to protect the pack. Wouldn’t my mom love to know the dog is above her in the heirarchy? hehe, that happens a lot in dog-human relationships actually.

That reminds me of another job I considered a few years ago. It kind of combines my love for psychology and my love for animals. Animal behavioralist! I think THAT might just be the perfect job for me. 🙂

I happened to mention to my dad that his wife sounded like a really good home-nurse and he said something like “Yeah, she found her niche, someday we’ll find ours right?” I had to laugh b/c finding my niche is the thing that’s been on my mind so often lately. I want to make sure that when I do finally pick something I pick the RIGHT thing so I can excel at it. My dad paints cars and builds computers on the side, odd combo I know, apparently he’s bored with it though. He’s a good car painter, I can’t imagine him doing anything else short of maybe customizing Harleys or something. He’s not such a wonderful computer builder, he’d be better off giving that hobby up I think.

I really hate it when hubby has class. I am BORED stiff. It’s only Thursdays that I really have a problem. Tuesdays I’m occupied by the television. Thursdays though, there’s nothing on. Every other Thursday I woohoo, pay the bills and actually I just remembered I need to put together a grocery list, or do I? Crap, I don’t even know when we’re going grocery shopping this week! Eh, fuck it, we’ll go Saturday morning. 🙂

There’s an ant crawling around on my desk. One of the little tiny black one’s. What a boring existance, oh, now it’s on my calendar, change of scenery for him I suppose. Vicki’s asleep on my desk, Kenny’s asleep in his tower. Casper was asleep in the sink last I checked and Sally is, well, I don’t know where the hell Sally is. My guess though is that she’s asleep somewhere. Cats are fucking lazy. This is part of the reason we got a dog! The cats sleep all the damn time. 🙂 They’re cute though and they’ll wake up and be ready to play around 9pm or so, damn nocturnal animals.

You’re hilarious! I take it you’re bored, huh? I’m glad that you and your dad are inching your way into a better relationship. But if your dad is the way I think he is, I can tell you that he won’t go back to see his psychologist. Guys (and women) like that never stay in therapy. Animal behaviorist–is there a degree or certification you need in order to become one? Sounds cool!
