Puppy Update
No, I haven’t personally heard from the breeder but I checked my bank account and my check for the deposit on the puppy has been cashed. I got a little worried, I mean, we’re talking 300 bucks here that I don’t want to lose! Anyway, I checked their website and it had been updated the day before my check was cashed (Jan 26th). The update said that there had been a litter born on January 12th, 2003 and beside the number of puppies it said that one female and one male has been sold so my assumption is that the female that is sold is ours. We’re supposed to be contacted for a visit when the puppies are 4-5 weeks old so we should hear from them in 2-3 weeks and we should have our puppy by mid-march. If we don’t hear from them and things don’t go well, we at least know where they live *evil laugh* 🙂
I guess for now it’s time to start purchasing puppy supplies so we can get everything we need slowly w/o being overwhelmed.
My only real concern is our cats, especially Kenny. Sally has lived with dogs before although she’s not used to them anymore. Kenny is the cat that was attacked by Daphne but at least starting with a puppy it will be closer to their size and will grow up with them. Our goldens were always gentle with our cats when I was growing up even when they were tiny kittens, Snookie, the golden I grew up with used to put our cat Misty’s head in her mouth and slobber all over it and after play time Misty would curl up on top of Snookie’s belly and go to sleep. My mom said that her newest golden Tisha snapped at her cat Melvin ONCE when he came over by her food but all mom had to do was get on to her and it has never happened again. So from experience I have a lot of faith that this will work out just fine.
Anyway, that’s my puppy update. 🙂
The good thing about getting a puppy is that you can “cat train” it. Goldens are pretty cool around cats, anyway, since they’re water dogs and were never bred to hunt small land prey. Ducks, well, that’s another story. So make sure you train your pup to be good to your chickens!
