Insanity

I’m losing my mind. There’s only so much you can do when you’re sick. I can’t sit at the computer long w/o feeling like crap so I’m pretty much confined to my bed but I’ve been in my bed for 5 straight days now. I can’t sleep, I can hardly eat, I’m quite literally sneezing every 5 minutes if not more often. If my sneezing and runny nose would go away I’d be much better off! UGH!

Anyway, aside from sickness driving me insane not much else is new although we do have a stray cat. Actually, I don’t know if this cat is a stray or if it’s feral. It’s been living in the woods since we moved in, well, most likely since before we moved in. This is at least it’s second winter out there and this is a brutal one. Since new neighbors have started building on the other side of the woods the cat seems to have moved closer to our side. I made contact with the cat over the summer. I tried to lure it out but it would have nothing of it. He just sat there watching me from a distance. By the look of the cat at the time though I thought it had a home. Now I’m not so sure, I mean who would leave their cat out in the 5 degree weather we’ve been having! I saw it on Tuesday and it looked a little scraggly although not unhealthy, just dirty and stuff. It also got into our trash last night so I’m thinking the kitty doesn’t have enough to eat. We put some food out on the porch for it. We didn’t bother with water b/c our chicken waterers freeze so fast in the coop, a bowl of water for a cat on the porch out in the open will freeze insanely fast. I think most cats figure out they can eat snow and there’s plenty of that on the ground so kitty should be okay in the water department. I don’t know if it’s a he or a she but it’s a real cutie, black and white and actually I would guess female judging simply from the overall size and build of the cat. So anyway, we put food out and if it’s a stray and not a feral we have a good chance of making ‘friends’ Hubby even talked about putting a kitty door down into the basement for it. I wouldn’t want the cat making contact with our cats at all w/o a vet check but I’m sure it would appreciate a warm place to stay, it’s resonably warm in our basement. I want to make sure the kitty has been spayed or neutered if we can and I don’t know if we get anywhere with the cat we might see about getting it to a good no kill shelter so it can get a home, we certainly don’t need 5 cats, 4 is plenty. If we can’t get anywhere with the cat we might want to enlist the help of a no kill shelter to trap the cat and work with it and find it a home. Kitties deserve warm homes and I feel so guilty every time I look out the window and see all kinds of kitty footprints in the snow, although at this point I think I’d worry if I didn’t see them, at least I know the kitty is still alive.

Wish us luck.
