Imagine
I’ve been listening to my John Lennon cd a lot lately. Seems appropriate lately.
I’ve always liked John Lennon. I first really discovered him when I discovered the song “Imagine” in 3rd grade or so. My mom gave me this stack of 45’s in a spindle case. The case is cute, it’s yellow and of course, someone drew a smiley face on it. The spindle contained 45’s with the likes of John Lennon, The Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Cheech and Chong, Foreigner and Warren Zevon. This is the music I grew up listening to. Well, that and my Alvin and the Chipmunks album. hehe
I remember listening to “Imagine” around the time of the first Gulf War and it really hitting me as to what that song really meant. It was the first song that ever made me stop and think, even at 12 years old. What if there was nothing to kill or die for? What if there were no differences, what if everyone could treat everyone with respect regardless of culture, beliefs or nationality?
This song is my anthem, this is the one thing I will always, always preach. Equality among the people, we are all humans and we all deserve the same chances in life. If we blow those chances and become criminals, well, we deserve to be treated like crimals but we should not let superficial things get in the way of judging a person for who they are, not by what religion they are, what country they are from or what clothes they wear.
Imagine
Imagine there’s no heaven,
It’s easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today…
Imagine there’s no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace…
Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…
You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you’ll join us,
And the world will live as one.

That’s a damn good anthem to have, too, Brandi. RYN and here’s where I go to get the latest news (besides the traditional places like CNN.com and MSNBC.com, I mean): http://www.alternet.org/index.html http://www.truthout.org/index.htm http://www.rationalenquirer.org/ http://robert-fisk.com/ Those are just a few of the places I go, but that will get you started.
