Home Again

We got back from Maine a little after noon today. We had a lot of fun. It had been far too long since we’d had a fun vacation. The last time we went on a trip was January 2004 and it was to Oklahoma for my grandfathers funeral. Not fun at all.

It got hotter this year than it ever has while we were there in Maine. This is the first year it’s been hot enough to swim. We swam in the pool a couple of times and even got in the ocean. I only got up about knee deep though hubby went out and enjoyed the waves. When it was hot enough to get into the ocean it was at high tide and was far too violent for me. I’m not a strong swimmer so the ocean intimidates me.

We walked down to the pier one night but couldn’t find much appeal to it. There are bars and crap to buy. Tourist crap, cheap jewelry, airbrushed t-shirts. We did find a book store in the town but didn’t find anything to buy. We also found a board game store where we went and spent way too much money.

Last night we went out to the Maine mall and walked around. I got some stuff at Hot Topic, some jewelry and two t-shirts, one Hello Kitty one and a Green Day one.

We found some stuff we want to try to do next time. We need to go when more of the tourist stuff is open though.

I love the ocean, when I first got there I was like, why the hell don’t I live by the ocean? But as the weekend wore on I started missing home more and more. If I lived on the ocean where would I vacation? 🙂 The drive home was uneventful. All of our kitties are fine, they’ve been starved for attention since we got in. Hubby’s Aunt and Uncle dropped Sara off a little over an hour after we got home. She seemed happy to see us. You could tell she enjoyed her stay with them though. When they went to leave she tried to go with them, she seemed confused. She’s settled back in at home though now. She played a bit but then Hubby and I sat down with a new game we bought in Maine and while we played that Sara wandered over to her crate and laid down for a nap that lasted about an hour. Ever since her nap she’s followed us around almost constantly. Right now hubby is working on installing our window AC’s as it’s gotten hot. After he finishes that we need to unpack and then probably think about going to bed. We’re both exhausted both from all the walking around outside and from the crappy sleep in the crappy bed. The bed wasn’t very big and it was incredibly uncomfortable. It doesn’t help that our spoiled selves are used to sleeping on a tempur-pedic. We woke up sore every morning. We started calling the bed the “Bed of Pain”. We had that problem last time we were there too, when we were used to sleeping on a normal metal spring mattress so I think the beds there just really do suck, it’s not just because we’re spoiled.

Anywho, that’s all for now. I have pictures and video as well. I don’t know that I’ll post the video stuff up online but I’ll be back with pictures in a day or two.
