Crazy Weekend
I think the last thing I wrote about was that I would be opening for one of the biggest bands that plays at the pub. That went really, really well. I couldn’t have been happier. We know the band pretty well and have watched them many times. So, when they came in and actually saw me on stage they were like, “this is a really cool role reversal, we’re watching you instead of you watching us.”
Saturday was a quiet night at the pub and it was also my birthday, so some of my husband’s family came out to see me sing. I opened for Dave’s band rather than playing during their break and at the end of my set I had some fun getting their lead guitarist to join me for some Christmas Carols. I should be able to share some video’s from this weekend in the next couple of days.
On Saturday we also got asked to help out at the pub for Sunday. There was a town-wide Christmas festival thing and we were supposed to greet people as they came into the pub and help the bartender if she needed it. Dave’s other half had another commitment for most of the day and his cooks were out sick, so it was just him and one bartender working that day.
I basically ended up waitressing the floor while my husband greeted people because it got insanely busy. Busier than anyone expected. I have never waitressed before in my entire life. Luckily I know the menu like the back of my hand and once me and the bartender got a system down between us it went pretty smoothly. There were a couple of people who had waitressed for years who I was serving, and they were blown away that I was working the floor as well as I was with absolutely no experience. I’ll admit, I was terrified at first because I know waitressing isn’t easy work and I hadn’t expected to be the only one in charge of the entire floor. I really thought I’d just be delivering orders and bussing tables at most. I ended up working about 5 hours pretty much flat-out. When Dave finally came over and told me to go ahead and knock-off and get a beer it was really hard to wind down. I was hopped up on so much adrenaline. When I finally started to wind down I realized I’m utterly exhausted. I certainly earned a new respect for how physical waitressing can be. Amazingly, I didn’t screw up anything but a couple of drink orders and those were just soda’s, so no big deal really.
I’ve actually offered to help out at the pub a few times, this was the first time they actually took me up on it. Because of that, I was determined to impress them and I think I did. Dave admitted that he never would have gotten through this day without the help. As tiring as it was, I really hope I get to do it again because I actually enjoyed it.
Anyway, I’m wiped and off to bed now. If this entry is all over the place it’s because I’m typing while half asleep. So good night and I hope everyone had a nice weekend.
Wow!! Kudos!! Great job. I once got a job as a waitress in my 30’s and I was scared. It was a busy restaurant. I didn’t know what some of the meals looked like, *Italian food*, so I accidentally gave another waitresses’ order to MY customer, whom did not say a word when I put the meal on the table in front of him. In a few moments the waitress called me over by the kitchen and really chewed me out and I was so hurt and upset, I actually walked out and quit. I was later told, I was not doing that badly by someone else and that -that waitress was kind of a B. Oh well, live and learn, LOL.
