Brrrrr… (edited)

It’s around 50 degrees in our house right now. I noticed it seemed awful cold in the house. Colder than usual. It’s always cold in here since it’s an old house but today I noticed it wasn’t just cold it was damn cold. When I checked the temp in the living room it read 55 degrees. I turned the thermostat up to 65 and nothing happened. I kicked it up to 80 and again, nothing. Frustrated and fearing the worse I called hubby. Our furnace is old and it does need replacing so we were both pretty much fearing the absolute worst.

I picked hubby up from work so he could come home and fix the no heat problem. He first called his brother-in-law who owns an HVAC Co. and based on what hubby said the furnace was doing he said it sounded like it needed cleaning. Our furnace technically isn’t due for cleaning again until May but who knows, maybe it’s just exceptionally icky this year. 🙂

So anyway, hubby called our oil co and they said they’d send a guy out. The guy has been here 15 minutes or so and I just felt the heat kick on literally about a minute ago. Thank goodness!! I was so afraid we’d be without heat longer than the few hours we’ve been without today. It’s wayyyy too cold up here in CT right now to be without heat!

Edit:

So apparently our furnace isn’t as bad off as we thought. The guy they sent out is familiar with the unit we have. He said it’s a good unit and we should definitely be able to get at least another 5 years out of it. Hubbys brother in law didn’t seem to think highly of our heater when he looked at it. *shrugs* I know nothing about them, all I know is what I’m told.

Apparently the problem today was with a control unit on it. It was a quick/easy electrical fix with it. The heater guy also made a comment about our water heater being one of the best. I know I’ve never had any complaints about the hot water in this house. Everywhere else I’ve lived I have though. Anyway, so no more heater problems, as I type this it already feels warmer in here. 🙂

Apparently too, when the guy saw what house he was coming to today he was really happy. It’s funny because sometimes people just get so happy to have a reason to stop here. We have people stop at our tag sales just so they can ask questions about our house. For anyone who reads me and hasn’t heard the story I’ll give a briefing. Our house was originally built somewhere around 1790-1800 or so. Hubbys dad bought it in 1980, and did a complete restoration down to the frame. He kept the original layout and such and tried to keep it looking old and as close to original as possible. A good portion of the foundation is un-mortered stone, we have uneven plank flooring, stuff like that. Its history and such attracts people so we’re constantly getting questions and such about it. People who watched it go into disprepair and then be rebuilt are particularly curious.

Anyway, that’s all for now.

I HATE house shit like this! UGH!!! I wish I had a landlord who would just come and fix things when they broke and I wouldn’t have to worry about any of it. Home ownership can be a real pain in the ass.
