Another card bites the dust…

So, I just had another credit card stolen, that’s two cards in a week. That started to feel like there might be something bigger going on. Upon further research though, it doesn’t seem to be all that uncommon unfortunately. I’ll be keeping a close eye on all my stuff just in case. Looking up info on how often this happens to other people and stuff I saw one guy talking about how he had a credit card that he got, he put it away in a safe and hadn’t used it at all and it still got stolen and used fraudulently. Basically, the breach had to have happened at the issuing bank. So, you can TRY not to use your card at dodgy places, but chances are, you’re screwed eventually regardless.

I hope that’s it for awhile. I’ve had some weird things happen in the past with identity theft and I don’t really want to do it again. I once had someone setting up accounts all over the place in my name and sending random crap to my house. Rather than treating themselves with my card they seemed to be screwing with me. That was not only really weird, but it was a huge mess to clear up because we had to cancel a ton of accounts and convince people that it really wasn’t me. I’m pretty sure some people never really believed me, but since the customer is always right most got taken care of. A couple of accounts went to collections, and I got tired of fighting with them because it was stupid small shit, book clubs and stuff like that, so I just let it go. It’s all aged out now, but it was annoying at the time. And, of course, given that it seemed like someone was screwing with me, at the time it really made me wonder if it was someone I knew. I don’t think it actually was though.

I’m just glad I’ve never had any big-ticket stuff done. Someone I went to trade school with had someone buy a house in her name and she was still dealing with that years later.

Anyway, it feels properly like winter this morning. In the upper 20’s right now. I’m sitting next to the window and I can feel the cold coming off of it. I’d close the shades but I like to watch the birds. Later I’m off to the pub, a group of older ladies has adopted me and I’m going to their Tuesday social group. They meet and chat and Dave makes a buffet for them. They’re all really nice and hanging with them is always a fun time. Plus, you guys, once you have tried Dave’s buffet, you’ll never turn down an event that includes it because that man is an amazing chef. He can cook what sounds like the most mundane thing ever and it will knock your friggin’ socks off! 🙂  After that I’m meeting up with the piper from the pub to run down a song he wants to play with me and talk about me possibly joining up with his folk group. I’m not so sure about joining the folk group. If it’s the group of people I think it is I remember them being the kind of people that will judge you by the brand of instrument you play, yet they can’t really play all that well themselves. If that’s the case, then, no thanks.

Anyway, enough rambling from me.

Completely random and unrelated to your entry, but it reminded me – was driving through NYC the other day and passed a piper randomly walking down the street in full kilt and gear with his pipes. It was fun to see!

Well that sucks. I can’t imagine the frustration.

Oh no! I completely understand your frustration! I had my card compromised twice. Capital one was amazing in the process though! Best of luck to you!

Good luck with your credit card. I also believe that this will happen to everyone at some point. It is very inconvenient, but the banks are also used to it and will help put things right. The rest of your day sounds like fun!

Can a bagpiper play softly enough so a singer can be heard?

On a set of Great Highland Bagpipes, not very easily. He wants to play the Smallpipes with me though, they’re much smaller and quieter.

That’s frustrating. Hopefully this all gets sorted out and that’s the end of your problems with card fraud.

People always judge my poor old discoloured student trumpet, then they hear me play. I simply out play them and my trumpet sounds like a Raja.

But, yes, I agree. No need to play with people who are that snobby.

Ugh, that’s terrible to go through. It’s like playing whack-a-mole to get everything reported and secured again. Best of luck to you and hopefully its over.
