Animal Cruelty
I was just watching a show on TLC. I don’t remember the exact name but it was about the Top Ten Sting operations. In at number 2 was something I’d heard about through my cat magazine’s but something I hadn’t seen with my own eyes.
I’m sure a lot of people have seen these products. They’re cute little realistic looking cats shaped into different positions, some sleeping, some sitting and whatnot. The label says that these are made from rabbit pelts but in fact, most, if not all of these are made from cat and dog pelts.
The footage of the animals stored and killed in China was horrible. These images will never, EVER leave my mind. Two especially, an orange cat and a black cat snuggled together in fear. The orange cat had a string around it’s throat as this is how they killed them, strangulation. The fear in that cats eyes shot right through me and I could hardly watch the rest of the segment because I was crying so hard. The next image was that of a dog, he looked like a German Shepherd. He was being tied to a fence by a short rope, he too would be strangled. The narrator noted the fact that this dog was wagging his tail. He never lost faith in those evil people. He was still wagging his tail and looking up at them with hopeful eyes even after the abuse. Another image showed a storage room piled high with dog pelts.
These people make these things and intentionally mislabel them as rabbit fur. I don’t think killing rabbits for this purpose is any better personally but still.
When I first heard about this happening in Asia a year or so ago I understood something. I have one of those fur things that I had picked up at a flea market. At the time I didn’t know what it was and they’re appealing because they’re so cute. I brought that thing home and from the time I sat it down until I put it behind glass my cats would attack it. They never bother anything of mine and I have tons of fake fur stuffed animal type things around. This was real and it was cat and it bothered them. They hate that damned thing. I don’t know if they know it’s cat fur but I do know they don’t like it.
I guess the moral of this story is don’t buy those little cat things made of supposed rabbit fur. This trade has yet to be completely ended and even if they are rabbit that’s no good either. Have you ever had a pet rabbit? They’re wonderful loving companions just like dogs and cats are. These animals feel pain.
I’m saddened and sickened by this. If I find any pictures online I might put them up at a later date. Animal abuse is something I just can not tolerate.
Well, if you want photos of animal abuse, go to http://www.greyhounds.org–that‘s the web site for the Greyhound Protection League. They are militantly anti-racing, and I support them with donations and spreading the word about what they do. Beware, though: The photos are shocking. There are parts of the site that don’t have photos and are just informational. Animal abuse is the worst thing in the world.
