Well, I got up this morning and checked my work e-mail and voice mail. I had no voice mails and two e-mails. One from a guy on our help-desk letting me know someone was missing from the phone directory. Another from someone wanting a report printed. I can get the report from home, easily. I also have to contact the guy missing from the directory to get his information. People drive me insane, they seem to think people just magically appear in the phone directory and they don’t have to give me anything. I’ve had people call me up and say So and so has worked here for 20 years and he’s not in the directory. Why not?? Well, that I don’t know, I’ve only worked here for four years but if no one sends us the information we can’t enter it. I don’t just magically know when people are hired and fired. I rely on that information to get to me through several means, if someone fucks up along the way and it doesn’t get to me then tada, person isn’t listed in the directory.

*sigh*

hehe, Kenny hissed at the kittens this morning. They were all asleep in the box in the closet and Sophie was nowhere to be seen. Kenny wandered into the closets and hissed at the kittens. He’s weird like this. He hisses at everything. He hissed at the kittens right after they were born too. If whatever the new animal is isn’t something he’s afraid of and he wants to tell it “Hey, don’t screw with me” then he’ll hiss at it. He’s gotten to where he’ll sit at the back screen door and hiss at Sara when she’s waiting to come inside too. Kenny will get used to kittens and I’m sure he’ll have fun with them. He’ll probably hiss at them for awhile but he won’t hurt them.

Anyway, I’m going to be doing what work that comes in, if any, from home today. Tomorrow is the day I do the phone directory update so I’ll be in tomorrow and most likely taking Friday to work from home as well.

There’s like nothing on TV this early. I used to watch Garfield but apparently they’ve taken it off the air in the past few weeks. Or maybe it’s just temporary. *shrugs* I turned on the news. I’ve been keeping an eye on the Hurricane. Not only is it possible it could hit us but my boss is currently right in the projected path of it at one of our other branch offices. After she leaves there today she’s going to visit her parents, who are also right in the projected path of the hurricane.

The hurricane is still quite a ways away from the coast of NC and is already down to a category 2 hurricane. If it makes it all the way up to Connecticut it’s not going to be too bad. I’m glad we don’t have to go grocery shopping this week though. People get totally freaked out any time they hear the word “hurricane” or “snow storm”, if you go to the grocery store after the news even so much as hints at a winter storm there will be no beef, no bread and no milk. I can understand bread but beef and milk? If we have a storm that’s bad enough to cause your power to go out what good is beef and milk? If your power is out for more than a few hours, especially if it’s out for days your beef and milk are just going to spoil. Even if you buy ice you’ll need to replace that ice in a day or two. Beef might be good for the first day, you can go outside and grill burgers but really, I think it’s a bad idea. We never need to stock up before a storm. We have a little propane grill thingy and we also have a fire pit for grilling outside. I can cook just about anything we have with that stuff. As long as it doesn’t need to go into the oven I can cook it. I’m resourceful. If the power goes out maybe ya’ll should come over and I’ll whip up some Pasta E Fagioli outside. It can be done. 😉 And if nothing else the chickens provide us with eggs on a daily basis and eggs taste best cooked outdoors anyway. We also keep single serving size poland springs around all the time b/c our water tastes like copper. So if a storm comes, we’re set. 🙂 Only good thing about a winter storm with lots of snow is if the power goes out for a long time you can toss any perishables that can be frozen out into the snow and they’ll stay good.

It takes a lot to make me worry. I’m from Oklahoma, we have tornado’s down there. In the four years I’ve lived here nothing has even compared to some of the normal thunderstorms we have down in Oklahoma. You call this a storm? I usually say. Ha, when your mom has to chase the damn trashcan down the street and the power goes out THAT’s a storm.

This reminds me of something that happened to me. There was one time my dad was taking me and my little cousin to get pizza. Just as we pull into the parking lot of the pizza place a rather large piece of wood hits the roof of the truck. The sky is dark. When we get out of the truck and look up there are clouds literally swirling overhead, the tornado sirens are going off. We run into the pizza place and the power is out there, people are gathered at the windows, worried, some are still quietly eating their pizza’s. My little cousin starts to cry when she hears the word “tornado”. I pull her close to me and tell her it’ll be alright. We wait. The tornado hit a church about a mile away from where we were. The piece of wood that hit the truck had been part of that church. We got in the truck after it was clear and drove home, no pizza for us that day. That church was pretty much all that was damaged by the small tornado. They rebuilt it within a year. And that, dear reader, is the closest I’ve ever been to a tornado. 🙂

All in all, I like Connecticut despite it’s lack of awesome thunderstorms, one of my favorite things. 🙂 We’re well protected from things like Hurricane’s, and tornado’s here are rare. Snow is our biggest concern really. One thing about tornado’s is that you’ve got a chance that they won’t hit you. If you live on the coast and a hurricane is coming there’s no chance it’s going to skip by your house. Stay safe everyone!

Edit (11am): I decided to have some fun and take a new picture for the front of my OD. So if you didn’t visit my front page here’s the pic.

I’m pretty happy with how the pic turned out. I decided to try doing it using the feature on the camera that lets you position it then sit it down on a surface and run in front of it, lol. It was fun, I ran the battery down on the camera so it’s charging. I took about 20 pics and this is the only one I’m showing anyone lol.

And that’s it. I’m going to go check on work now. 🙂
