*sigh* This week is going by really slow. I really hope next week goes by faster! I swear it feels like it should be friday by now, but it’s not.
We scored some more free stuff. 🙂 Seems all our neighbors are doing some fall cleaning. People sit stuff out by the road, if it’s with their trash and/or not tagged with a price it’s considered free. We scored a metal shelving unit and two cabinets with three drawers in each. The drawers had been part of a desk but people had already taken other stuff that belonged to the desk and had made it less useful as a desk. Since the drawer units were still there this morning, trash day, we decided to take them. It sounds pathetic, picking up stuff people are throwing out on the side of the road, but it’s really not. Most of the stuff you find is pretty decent, we live in a pretty rich town, stuff these people consider trash is stuff I’d pay 10 bucks for, lol. *shrugs* Hubby wants to build most of our desks, drawers and cabinetry himself eventually anyway so I don’t see a need to go and spend money on stuff we’re just going to replace in a couple years. That and I’m cheap, speaking of cheap. I’m looking forward to going to some of the old thrift store’s I used to go to in Tulsa. Yay, I miss those places. I hardly score anything neat up here, I scored a TON of shit all the time in Tulsa. Tulsa rocks for thrift stores and pawn shops. I once scored an antique wooden clarinet, in working condition at a pawn shop in Tulsa, actually my dad found it and took me there to see it after I got home from my after-school job. He said he would have just purchased it but wanted me to check and see if it was in good condition, it was, so he bought it for me. I picked up a new mouthpeice and some reeds and took it home to try it out. 🙂 Ah, and that’s another thing. There’s a HUGE music store in Tulsa that has rows and rows of sheet music. I’ve had to buy all my sheet music online since I moved here and have really missed browsing the rows of sheet music. I’ve got to pick up a new copy of Claude Debussy’s Syrinx for Flute, Sophie managed to destroy my only copy!!!! ARGH!! I had been storing my sheet music under my dresser and Sophie decided it would be fun to go under there and destroy it, I woke up to find Syrinx in many pieces all over the floor. I was pretty pissed!
One thing I’m not looking forward to in Tulsa is traffic, traffic down there has gotten worse since I left. 2 years ago when we visited we kept having to drive from our hotel to the hospital, my grandfather had a stroke like the day before we got to town. Anyway, the drive should have taken me 15 minutes, but instead was taking half an hour to 45 minutes and this was during the day in the middle of the week when everyone should have been at work!!
Anyway, I’m just sitting here rambling on and on about nothing. I should probably go. 🙂
Do you really want to keep Sophie? Should she be an only cat? We have a “curb culture” here, too. In fact, I just got rid of a microwave stand this morning! I set it out on the curb last night and it was gone this morning. I’ve set lots of stuff out on the curb and it’s been taken — old bookshelves, a working vacuum cleaner I don’t need, and on and on. I’m glad people take stuff!
