So, the HPV vaccine will be available in December. It will only be given to women between the ages of 9 and 26. (I’m going to try and get one at the first of the year, before I hit the big 2-6.)

There are apparently 4 main strains of HPV and even if you have one (or more) the vaccine will still help prevent you from contracting the others.

I hear, from a girl I know whose mother was at a nurses convention recently, (so take this info for what it is: hearsay) that the vaccine will be required for all girls in public school unless they show religious exemption.

Here is the info page from the CDC: HPV Vaccine Info

There are actually a lot more than 4 strains of it. Sadly, an enormous amount of the population has it, too…

There are many more than 4. This vaccine protects against 4 strains associated with causing cervical cancer, which is where that number comes from. This vaccine is good news, but people should know that having HPV is not the same as having cervical cancer. The majority of adults have or have had HPV, but in most cases it’s nothing more than benign bumps, and in many cases there aren’t even bumps.

i think it’s weird that they don’t publicize that HPV can cause anal cancer in men. I think it’s anal cancer. Anyway.
