Puddle Prancer

I realize that nearly the entire nation has been battling snow and ice and winds and freezing temperatures, so a storm becomes the norm for you. Here in Georgia, however, we have been enjoying mild temperatures that have hit the upper sixties in the pat few days.

But not today! Today, it has been pouring all day long. The rain is almost mean, if I may anthropomorphize a bit. It is relentless. There are puddles everywhere. There are puddles that now qualify as lakes. The mud outside is frightening.

It’s days like this that really make me curse the fact that my garage door opener is broken. I have to get out of the car to open it when I come home and when I leave, I have to get out of the car to close it. That’s a hassle when it’s sunny, but when it’s raining, it’s just plain infuriating. (Not to mention wet.)

Tomorrow is Theodor Geisel’s birthday.

And who is that strange man, you say
Why should I know of his birth day?
Is he more famous than a moose,
does he have ties to Mother Goose?

And now, my friends, why should you care
About that name I typed up there
He’s famous, that’s for sure, it’s true
but why should I enlighten you?

And now I guess it is the time
to finish up this silly rhyme
So I will set the answer loose
And tell you Geisel is Dr. Seuss

I have been reading Seuss books to my classes all week in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday and the fact that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of The Cat in the Hat I have very nearly mastered his rhyming tongue twisters, and I have realized that Dr. Seuss taught some important lessons about life. He was also a bit of a sexist.

I am still very, very busy. I am one step closer to finishing this whole student teaching business, but until the work sample is turned in you will hear very little from me.

Have you read his biography Dr. Seuss and Mr. Geisel?

ryn: Yeah I’m hoping she grows out of that! haha. But she is for sure going to be taller than me!

I love Dr. Seuss. It’s funny, because I gave Megan Dr. Seuss books for her birthday and my MIL and SIL were like “We can’t read them! They’re too hard!” I grew up with my mom reading them to B and I every night. She liked the one with the elephant in the tree or whatever… I can’t remember the title, and too lazy to Google it. Horton?

Thats funny because the kids I watched had just informed me it was his birthday tomorrow! I feel you on the nasty weather! I went to the store only to be greeted with a shower as I put my groceries in the car! Yuck!
