Feline/Canine Edit

I’m working on the prompts from a few entries ago. I’m very self conscious about my writing, so I won’t post it unless it isn’t embarrassing. It’s not there yet.

To tide you over some more, here are some kitty pictures.

I think I will need to take Bean to the vet on Monday. She’s having trouble with her eye. You can see how squinty it is in this picture. You can’t see the green crusty drainage that’s been oozing out of it for days.

I wonder if this has anything to do with my insomnia troubles?

But she’s so cute!

If Esme has an OD, how come I’m not on her favorites list?

Both conspiring against my good night’s sleep.

Yeah…

So I was about to get in the shower when I heard some whining outside my door. Merry was sitting there wagging her tail on the landing. I let her in and picked her up so we could wave to mom out the window. As I am putting her back down, I realize that she looks kinda funny. On closer inspection, I realize that her entire top lip is swollen.

I don’t see any marks or stingers, so I picked her up and carried her down to mom. We looked her over and I said that I was worried because her whole lip was swollen, not just one side. We decide to keep a close eye on her to see if it gets worse.

Back at the house, I go online to see what dose of benadryl is safe to give a puppy. While I am on the computer, Merry gets worse. I was going to put the benadryl in some bologna, but by that time nearly her whole face was swollen and she had gotten some hives. Mom got on the phone with the animal hospital. They tell us to bring her in.

This whole time my sister has been at work. Mom called her and let her know what was going on. She freaked out and told work she needed to leave. She was going to meet us at the vet.

I held Merry on the ride to the animal hospital The poor thing was swollen everywhere. She had dives all over her head and feet and her toes were even swollen.

We figure she got stung by a yellowjacket (or more likely, several). They are all over the place down here and they fly really low to the ground. Because of how swollen her face was, they thought it might be a snakebite, but there were no puncture wounds, so…

She got some antihistamine and anti-inflammatory and a cortisone shot. $154 later, she looks MUCH better and is resting downstairs. I think that’s enough excitement for one day. Unfortunately, we were too busy rushing around to stop and take a picture of her swollen face, but t was really funny. She was quite a sight.

Aww, poor puppy! I’m glad she was okay… I would freak out if any of my dogs had gotten stung. Hehe, your cats look rather mischevious.

Poor Merry. One of our cats, Kenai, has a similar thing with her eye. It isn’t crusty or anything but, periodically, it’ll look swollen and half-lidded.
