Cake Time Again!

It’s my sister’s birthday andthat means it’s time again for another one of my mom’s cakes. This sister is the one obsessed with Johnny Depp and Pirates of the Carribbean. In past years she has had my mom make a pirate ship and a treasure chest. This year, in honor of the new Pirates movie, she asked for something that mom wasn’t quite sure that she could do.

She asked for the kraken. Yup. The giant sea monster that eats captain Jack Sparrow. Well, mom thought about it, and thought about it and here’s what she came up with:

Not bad, huh? There’s even a toy captain Sparrow trying to escape it’s evil clutches. The body is made of red velvet cake (so that when you cut it, it looks bloody) and the tentacles are alternating chocolate and vanilla cake. Mmmmmm, tentacles. The suckers are made from smarties. The frosting has been dyed a sickly brown-green. So there you have it. Birthday Kraken.
