way to be
(From the gospel of truth in Codex 1, book 3)
Speak of the truth with those who search for it and of knowledge to those who have committed sin in their error. (pg33) Make firm the foot of those who have stumbled and stretch out your hands to those who are ill. Feed those who are hungry and give repose to those who are weary, and rise up those who wish to rise and awaken those who sleep. For you are the understanding that is drawn forth. If strength acts thus, it becomes even stronger. Be concerned with yourselves; do not be concerned with other things which you have rejected from yourselves. Do not return to what you have vomited to eat it. Do not be moths. Do not be worms, for you have already cast it off. Do not become a dwelling for the devil, for you have already destroyed him. Do not strengthen obstacles to you that are collapsing as though you were the support for them.
While reading another part of this Gosple I thought that there should be a more proactive and positive Ten Comandments so I wrote this
1. Honor God.
2. Honor and show reverence for all life.
3. Set aside one day a week for leisure, reflection and growth.
4. Practice forgiveness of others and self.
5. Be generous, kind and charitable.
6. Honor your commitments
7. Be honest and genuine in word and in deed.
8. Be content with what you have.
9. Make love based not fear based decisions.
10. Know yourself.
(* I left out honoring parents which I feel is part of practicing forgiveness of others but in that regard one should honor all people which is covered in #2 so I feel it is covered.*)
To compare mine with others I include them below.
Deuteronomy 5:6-21, Exodus 20:3-16— (and cleaned up a bit)
1. Have no other gods.
2. Make no images of anything in heaven, earth or the sea, and do not worship or labor for them.
3. Do not vainly use the name of your God.
4. Do no work on the seventh day of the week.
5. Honor your parents.
6. Do not kill.
7. Do not commit adultery.
8. Do not steal.
9. Do not give false testimony against another.
10. Do not desire another’s wife or anything that belongs to another.
Hippocrates came up with a shorter list Do No Harm
Ten Commandments of Solon (about 600 B.C.E., Greek work)(Diogenes Laertius, Lives of Eminent Philosophers, 1.60), which run as follows:
1. Trust good character more than promises.
2. Do not speak falsely.
3. Do good things.
4. Do not be hasty in making friends, but do not abandon them once made.
5. Learn to obey before you command.
6. When giving advice, do not recommend what is most pleasing, but what is most useful.
7. Make reason your supreme commander.
8. Do not associate with people who do bad things.
9. Honor the gods.
10. Have regard for your parents.
