Pride: one of the seven deadly sins. If you’re Christian. I never really thought of myself as prideful until I realized how much of it I had to swallow to ask my mother if I could move back in two and a half years after she kicked me out of the house for getting in a fight with her fiance.

For two years I went to school full time, worked full time, held full-time unpaid internships and did what I had to do so that I could manage without her and not have to beg her to take me in. And then I graduated and now I can’t get a job and I ran out of options.

I should feel lucky and grateful that I have a place to live and family who is willing to take me in. Instead I am only gritting my teeth and swallowing my tongue and resenting the whole situation. Because of my pride. Perhaps that is why the Christians consider it a sin.
