"Here’s to the heart that’s wise enough to know when it’s better off broken" — Dave Van Ronk

No, my heart isn’t broken, but I love this quote.

So I met this guy at the brewery’s open mic night about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Let’s call him D. I had just finished up bartending in the martini bar and decided to stop by to see B, who was running open mic that night. He was busy and I sat down with at an empty seat with a regular and two guys I didn’t know who had just performed. I ended up talking to them for the rest of the night. The one was really funny and outgoing and when I got home the next day he had friended me on facebook. So he has been IMing me every couple days to say hi and about a week ago he asked me to hang out. Now, as a rule, I don’t date guys I meet at bars, especially not the one I work at. The brewery is the biggest rumor mill possible and I try to keep my personal life very seperate from the people I work with. Plus, I just am not into the bar scene that much unless I am going to hear some awesome live music.

But anyway, he asked me to come over last night….and I did. And he is actually pretty awesome. He has a pretty good job, plays several intstruments, is super into his family, has his own two bedroom apartment and  a cat(!), he’s adorable, and really funny. And he seems super into me.

So why am I hesitating? Besides the fact that I just got out of an almost relationship with B?

I haven’t dated enough assholes to justify being this paranoid that this guy is too good to be true and is seriously interested in me.

Well, we’ll see.

I am taking a second job at another bar close to the one I already work at. The brewery just can’t give me enough hours right now. I start training tomorrow at 5. I was supposed to go out to dinner with D tomorrow night, but had to cancel when the bar called and asked me to start tomorrow. Really mad about that! But anyway, my schedule is going to be ridiculous! My new internship starts Wednesday. So if this new restaurant gives me all the shifts I said I could work (crossing my fingers they don’t!) I will have class for three hours Monday morning, then work six hours monday night. Then Tuesday through Thursday I will work 9AM-11PM going directly from my internship to the new bar. I have my internship Friday too and depending on whether I work Friday or Saturday night at the brewery, might be working another 14 hour day Friday. And then Sunday night I will be working in the martini bar.

That schedule will get old really quickly. Hopefully things pick up at the new place really quickly and I can just quit the brewery.

Thankfully,  school won’t be too intense this semester. I only have one 20 page paper. The rest is mostly little projects, reading, case studies, etc.

Here’s to my last semester of undergrad! And "to the heart that’s wise enough to know when it’s better off broken."

That is a pretty lovely quote. The latin quote on my diaries main page says, “Amare et sapere vix deo conceditur” or “Even for a god it is hard to love and be wise at the same time.” Seemed somewhat related, heh. I forget who said it though. Hope the new job works out well! Also meeting new people is always a good thing! Even if you don’t become best buds, you give yourself the chance.

RYN: Also I don’t know the answer to that, having never been in a relationship myself. I’m a relationship leper of sorts it seems.
