THE STUPID BUREAU OF MOTOR VEHICLES

I swear nothing is clear in the law about when you’re allowed to get your license. I read the thing, and, ok, tell me if this doesn’t make sense to you, I had thought you had to hold your temporary permit at least sixth months after you took the test which validates your temps. Riiight…

So what happened is this: I got my photo ID and temps packet in August of 99. I didn’t take the test until January 00. I assumed this meant that yes, my photo ID would expire in August, but that my temps were still valid until a year from when I took the test. I also assumed that I couldn’t get my license until July, which is sixth months from January. Riiight.

So I had my first in-car with the instructor on Monday, and she’s like, um, your temps expire on Thursday. She explained that I could’ve gotten my license 6 months after I received THE PACKET! WHICH MEANS FEBRUARY! So I had to go retake the fricken test and everything today so that they don’t expire.

The rest of my in-cars are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. And I leave for band camp on Sunday. So I STILL won’t have my license until the week of August 21. *sigh* At least it’s in time for school.
