The History of Jello, Balloons, and Whatnot
Here we are, Mike. All the answers to your glorious little questions!
The History of Jello
Peter Cooper was the first man to receive a patent on what is now called jello, the lovely gelatin dessert, in 1845. For more detail on this delicacy, visit http://www.jello.com. Or for a more direct link to the history, go to http://www.kraftfoods.com/jell-o/history/ .

The History of the Balloon
Jacques Étienne and Joseph Michel Montgolfier were the men behind the first balloon. This experimentation began by filling a paper bag with smoke in the 1700’s. This was really a hot-air balloon, which I assume served as purely an amusement, although it’s a possible mode of transportation. The little balloons which I’m sure Mike refers to are most likely just a take off of these balloons and are called “toy” balloons… big surprise there. Ok, on to pop tarts…
The History of Pop Tarts
Well I contacted Kellogg’s and they informed me that Pop Tarts were made by the Kellogg Company (go figure) in 1964. As they would not inform me of the specific person, I can only deduce that because they have the rights to it, the company must claim the “invention” instead of the person.
A Vestigial Organ: The Tailbone
So here’s the deal with the tailbone. Over time what was once perhaps a “tail” was reduced to a vestigial organ. This means the organ is no longer used (much like your baby toe) and gradually becomes smaller. It’s scientific name is coccyx, based on the four vertebrae which are fused together to make up this organ. As I am yet to find any dates which pertain to what Mike refers to as the “species of ‘pre-man'”, this much information will have to suffice. There are some who say the tailbone is NOT vestigial and does have a distinct purpose. Think what you may, I only give one explanation for it.
Any questions?
