my own intolerance – a rant
(’cause you haven’t had one in awhile)
I just came across a random diary whose name was “Jesus Cares” and title “God is Love” and I just couldn’t help but throw up a little in my throat. Really? You really made an Open Diary and created that monstrosity? I mean having a diary or blog and writing about your faith is one thing… I’ve done that before (as much as I hate to say it) when I was younger and, well, when I was still a Christian. But to make an entire diary about nothing but that… doesn’t that just seem a little weird?
And who thinks that that will actually work? Who are any of these people who think that cramming that crap down people’s throats and inundating road-side signs with “HELL IS REAL” signs actually works? (Yeah, there are two bill-boards that I pass on the way to and from my parents’ house – going one direction it has the 10 commandments, 5 on each. On the way home it says “HELL IS REAL.” Very uplifting. On the way to Chris’ parents’ house, on the other hand, there’s a giant recycled Jesus monstrosity coming out of the water. Things like that make me hate where I live.)
You can believe whatever you want and you can practice whatever your religion is, but please let’s not annoy everyone else in the process, ok? Also, I do actually have a problem with people who believe in things that are scientifically not true. For example, my sister’s sister-in-law believes that the earth is only 4,000 years old. Apparently she likes the big bang theory. Uhh, except geologically (and for a lot of other reasons) that’s just plain not true… So if you believe in that then I actually do have a problem with it.
You can have faith coming out your ears – and I may not believe the same things or agree with it, but I’ll at least respect your right to that faith. But if your faith interferes with common sense in logic, then you’ve pretty much lost my respect. Kind of like Chris’ mom who won’t work and they’re dirt poor. “The Lord will provide” my ass. Clearly he’s not, because you have to help the guy out (if there is a guy). If you work hard, he’ll give you a little shove. It’s kind of like inertia. If you’re moving already, might be able to speed you up. But if you’re sitting there you’re shit out of luck. Wake up, honey.
I have a feeling I’m going to be burned at the stake for this one. (also ironic)
One more political side-note – do you ever wonder why the crazy-Christian contingent (my loving term for way over-the-top Christians who blindly follow anything) are usually Republicans? I usually find this odd, considering Democrats are the ones that seem to actually care about the American people as a whole and address social issues. It’s kind of like, “ohh yeah I’m a Christian I’ll follow that super wear-it-on-my-sleeve Christian candidate instead of the Christian-but-don’t-let-it-interfere-with-politics candidate while completely ignoring social issues that I should care about since I’m a moral Christian.”
Well if I wasn’t making enemies before I’m positive I have now. Muahaha. 😉

You know I grew up in a strict religious family, and I still believe in God. However, I also don’t understand why people make up OD diaries and just post oodles of long drawn out entries about their religious belief’s…etc. I don’t mind anyone talking about their faith, but I’d also like to hear about them as a person. I also tend to believe that a lot of churches push their congregationsinto voting Republican, and will even guilt them out if they don’t. I think a person should vote for who they think is the best person for the job. And I also agree that God doesn’t promote proverty in people. People promote proverty in themselves because they refuse to work. I think God likes to take care of us, but he just doesn’t dump money into our laps. :))

I meant to add that there are a lot of diaries on OD that have agenda’s..not just religious ones. I’m not really fond of the political ones either. :))

Dude, do you live in Ohio? There’s a church between Cincinnati and Dayton that has this insanely huge Jesus coming out of water statue and it’s just scary. Anyway, yeah, I get what you’re saying, but I’ve found that it’s best to just leave it alone. The more I think about religion and the number of people who truly believe some of it’s teachings, I just get depressed and frustrated.

RYN: Oh, that’s a coincidence. I’m actually from Cincinnati, too. I live in Phoenix now but…yeah. So um…how’s Cincy? Still the same, I imagine. But goddamn do I miss Gold Star and Penn Station. They just have no equal here.
