My night
Last night I helped “house sit” for a family friend. My sister had spent the first night in this unbelieveably huge and gorgeous house by herself, but is forcing me to spend the rest of the nights with her. It is by far the strangest house I have ever been in.
First of all, there is the problem of the alarm system. My sister doesn’t quite understand how it fully works, and the first morning accidently set it off. That was a major concern of ours last night and this morning… she’d already been visited by the police once, and we didn’t really want to re-create the first morning. Let’s just say we were extremely careful. The funny thing is, though, the security system makes us feel less safe than NOT having one… It makes us nervous.
To further understand the place, you must have an idea of what the one-year-old house SOUNDS like. Let me recreate how it sounded: “_______________________” NOTHING. Once all voices cease to talk, you can actually hear the sound of NOTHINGNESS. It’s a very intimidating sound. I don’t know about you all, but in my house, the refrigerator can be heard. Ok, the refrigerator in this house was COMPLETELY SILENT. I put my ear up to the fricking thing, and NOTHING. It’s so strange.
To further the noiseless factors of the house, the living room area is extremely open, and the staircase/hallway which leads to the second story is sort of in the center of the house, overlooking the living room. Any noise you make in that house echoes for at least 5 seconds. So it’s either silent, or it sounds like a million people saying what you just said. It’s not fun.
So my sister and I disabled the alarms, and sat down to watch our movie. Suddenly we here this beeping noise. It’s not the alarm, but nevertheless it freaks us out. We go in search of the source, and find this white box type thing plugged in to an outlet. No wires, just a speaker which sounds like this: “beep… tickaticka tick tick… beep beep… beep… ticka tap ticka ticka tap… beeeeeeeeep… beep beeeeep beeeep. ticka… beeeep…” We freaked. Doorbell? Motion detector? Smoke alarm? But the modem-ish sounding noises were very confusing. Suddenly we heard ANOTHER one. It was upstairs, and it was as if they were COMMUNICATING to each other. We unplugged them, called our father, freaked to him, and kept them unplugged. I have noooo idea what it was.
Eventually we went to bed. In the morning we managed to escape from the house without any alarms going off. Geez.
Anyway, that was our rather frightening experience. It may not seem like anything to you… but we got to thinking about WHAT those things were (we read the back of them and they said something about must receieve all interference no matter what. we kind of started thinking along the terms of a SPY, or an ALIEN, lol)… plus all the silence. It does something to ya… staying in that house. Very wierd.

lol Communicating with each other? Funny 🙂 You make it sound like the house from the Shining or something. 🙂
