manual reunion
Meg and I got together yesterday for lunch. Lunch turned into two hours of talking, and then we went to Border’s for some chai. And naturally chai turned into two more hours of talking. We talked about pretty much everything possible. Spent a lot of time on the past year and a half since we haven’t spent time together since college, but we also reminisced waaaay back to high school (and even a couple moments of junior high).
I lamented the fact that my high school did not have its five year reunion. (Yes Meg, I know it’s Mitch’s fault.) Meg decided we should have an honors/AP only reunion – just the 100 or so students from high school for a smaller reunion. Wouldn’t that be amazing? (Dani feel free to weigh in on this idea…) Then we started talking about AP english and all of the crazy crazy people in that class. Carmen and Leigh and Glenn and Annie… and Anna and Kelly and… was Tim in that class? Apparently I’ve forgotten quite a few… But seriously. What wonderful art has Leigh made? What books has Carmen published? (she used to be an ODer, I wonder if she still writes here?) Is Glenn running a small country? Or at least a small town?
So I’ve decided to do some cyber-stalking. A manual reunion. I’ve got a message out to Carmen and an email out to Leigh. Glenn may or may not have a kid… I can’t really tell, but there are too many people with his same name to verify. Anyway, I heard a couple poems Carmen read at some open mic nights, and Leigh is apparently (according to her website) showing art in Paris and London and New York… crazy stuff. So, one person at a time I’m going to reach out just to see where these people are and what they’re doing.
Toward the end of yesterday’s visit Meg looked at me and said, “God we’ve known each other a long time!!!” We really have. And I can definitely say I’m glad we got together yesterday. I think we’re both in very good places right now (amazing what careers will do for not only your checking account but also your confidence) and are able to relate on a new level. And god we know the history… lol more than anyone else possibly. (Well, Dani excluded. Dani’s pretty much known Meg for-ev-er.) Aww Dani remember the physics study groups? With Liz and Garett and… what was her name? Meera? I practically lived at your house senior year, didn’t I. 😉
It’s hard to keep in contact with everyone. There are so many people I get curious about… and a whole bunch of people I genuinely miss. Like Dustin from college – we used to have almost every class together and had a ton of fun. Hadn’t talked to him for like a year until last night. And Dieter! I have a yearly online convo with him. (He’s going to be a doctor… that’s just crazy talk – who would stay in school that long???!?)
And I’m old!
(indecision)
ditto. 🙂 fantastic way to spend a sunday. i want to see leigh’s art. maybe i will coordinate some sort of reunion. i wonder when a good time of year is?

Awww…I feel like this was a “Dedicated to Dani” entry! I LIKE IT! 🙂 Funny–I was JUST talking to my mom today and she was telling me how my sister pretty much thinks my mom is CLUELESS when it comes to Calc and so she doesn’t listen to her. Well, funny, when I was home for Christmas Garett had lunch w/Billy & I and he said, remember the physics study groups where we wouldn’t leave until

your mom helped us with Calculus too? So my mom felt much appreciated when she heard that.

Oh-and I saw Leigh when I was at lunch with Garett but Garett didn’t believe me that it was her so he didn’t say hi to her and I didn’t know her well enough to say hello. 🙂
