in a house hunting funk
Well. I am frustrated. I am so frustrated that I just can’t stop thinking about it. This time last weekend Chris and I were unbelievably close to putting in an offer on a house. It’s the perfect house – it has everything we’ve ever wanted. Beautiful home, wonderful area, 4 bedrooms, full basement, everything. But it has what my father likes to call a “fatal flaw.” I’m not going to get into the details, but basically there are some issues with the placement and accessibility of the home that would make resale (and maybe even living there) difficult.
So it feel through. And we are devastated. We have searched and searched, and even finding a home we want to go visit is like finding a needle in a haystack. Why is it so difficult to find a newer home with a two-car garage around here? It’s 2008 – I don’t think I should really have to compromise on a two-car garage, right? Number of bedrooms is negotiable; anywhere from 2-4 works for us. Community is somewhat negotiable, as long as it’s somewhere between work for me and work for Chris. Two-car garage is not negotiable. It’s not. And an old house with exposed radiators or electric/plumbing that needs to replace is NOT negotiable. I will not deal with it. Single family vs townhome or condo is negotiable – seriously we will be happy with any of those options. We do want two living spaces though – that’s really not negotiable either, unless there’s a separated study type area for the piano.
Are we picky? Absolutely. Are we ridiculous? I really hope not. I guess we’ll keep searching, but I don’t have a lot of hope right now. We found our dream home, and it had a fatal flaw.

Coming from someone who bought a house without thinking about this….look into the school systems too! We wouldn’t be living where we are if we’d had looked into the schools in this area. Live in learn I guess. Good luck in your search for the ‘perfect’ home!

You’d think that finding a house would be a bit easier what with the economy being so low. I’ve heard that sellers are basically desperate at this point, because it’s been so bad. Hopefully you’ll find what you’re looking for!
